I am not sure if anyone is still checking this thread, but I am a recent CDL grad 08/06/2010 and I am looking for work. I do however have a felony on my record, it is seven (7) years old although it happened in 1997 (13yrs ago). I have made calls to companies like Roehl; Maverick; Paschall; McElroy; WSE Transportation; KLLM; Prime; BTC; Swift; WEL and the list goes on. All companies that say they hire with past convictions. AND STILL NOTHING! Its always, " I am sorry, we have decided to go with other drivers right now." Is there no hope for me?

Enigma78 give Watkins and Shepard a call, they hired my brother, he also had a very difficult time finding a job because he had 9 year old felony, but they hired him. Your felony has to be at least 7 years old which yours is. Also give Carolina Cargo a call, I hear they hire ex felons, they don't pay as well but you can get some experience with them and move on. Also try calling all the local trucking companies in the yellow pages maybe one of them will give you a chance.

St ay with it if you really want to do this. There are companies that will take you on. It may not be one of the best companies to work for but maybe you will get lucky if you have the right attitude. It's been ten years since my conviction and I still run into brick walls over it even with 4 years experience driving and no tickets on my record. But they are out there.
Keep an eye on the jobs/transport section of your local craigslist.

I applied, but they say I live out side of their hiring area. Also, that I would have to have attended an Driver Training Orientation through another company to get hired on!?! If I could go through another companies orientation that would mean they want to hire me right? And as I understand, it would not look good on your DAC for not following through the hiring process. Am I wrong?

Celadon trucking will hire you after 10 yrs. i drove for them before my felony conviction. they are rated one of the best companies to work for. they also offer you $1000 and a week off for every 30,000 miles or 60,000 for teams.

My cousin was in the same situation. Try Windy Hill they are out of Florida and are pretty lax on their hiring criteria. They are however a pretty good outfit. My cousin worked for them and I have several friends that have too. They don't ride your butt like the other companies and are really laid back. Their main terminal is in Wisconsin and the mainly run east coast and heartland. They really kept my cousin busy and he did very well there. If not try for some of the smaller mom and pop companies or even an owner operator willing to take you on. Good luck to you!
