I just recently graduated and I have a felony theft from 2001 and it's really hard to find a company that will hire you and I am in a program that will give a company a tax credit if they will hire me, but so far they don't want to take a chance.

I sure hope that you guys with more than one felony got your training for free. If you didn't you might just find yourself paying the school back for any monies they put out.

You should have researched your companies closer before now. I have seen some companies take a driver with one felony and most of the time it has to be 10 years ago. Multiple felonies I'm sure will be much harder. Lets face the fact that you will be competing with a lot of other drivers that have clean records. When you fill an application on-line all that companies sees is what is written on paper. The company has no idea what type of person you are so they just skip your application and go for the driver with the clean record.

Your chances for getting a job are still there only if you change the way you go about getting hired. If you do the same as everyone else then your chances are slim to none. But if you get a list of trucking companies in your area and go out and knock on some doors you just might have a chance. Go in and explain your situation and if they do give you a job you'll have to walk a straight line for a few years to build your reputation. You might even get lucky and walk into a company that needs a driver and it turns out to be a good job. So it's your choice on how you go about it.

Felons can get jobs n/p in trucking with exp. the hardest is new felony friendly new cdl holders...They are out there though.. And not $#$% companies either, I started grossing 800-1000 a week with evey weeeken off, in a felony friendly company within first 3 months solo and only3 weeks with trainer till in own trk, Trial by fire yes but that trucking sink or swim.. Go with a Company big enough to take the risk 50+ truck small enuff to care and try 200 trucks or less.. I would never work for a company with over 200 drivers.

P/S GaS hauler you are dead wrong, Best thing I ever did was pay for my own school as a felon and it gave me more choices and allowed me apply at smaller companies that do not pay for school by are not adverse to felons, also as a felon I have my Hazamat/DBls/TPls/Tanker and TWIC , I just cant run to Canada.

The biggest thing about getting a trucking job, even with a felony, getting anywhere, for that matter is....attitude. Everyone has been through hard times and nobody likes a whiner. Simple as that. It's not a guarantee you'll get a job anytime soon but keeping a good attitude (and not just when people are looking) is the key to any kind of success. This from a guy with a murder charge and thirteen years locked up and still managed to get a job. People are more willing to forgive you if than can actually like you. Pretty simple. People with no criminal records have the luxury of being a #######, we don't. lol

Dont sweat it , you just have to sort out the mid size / smaller companies , Also BY LAW most co only concerned with your past 7-10 yr past Anyway so I ALWAYS SAY NO and iF they ask me about my past from 20yrs ago I REPLY , I dont think DOT CURRENT mandatesDont apply to my 20yr past BUT the particular cco you're applying may INSURANCE restrictions on on there hiring pool. So try to find out if there background policies are DOT OR INSURANCE driven.

This thread is several years old.
Your felonies are over 10 yrs. old, so shouldn't be be a problem with most companies.
These companies hire felons that are CDL school grads:

    Carolina Cargo
    Martin Enterprises of the Carolinas
    Roadtex
    Paschall Truck Lines
    Navajo Express
    Comet Transportation - Harvey, IL
PI&I Motor Express - Masury Ohio
    Western Express

In my opinion, Navajo Express would be my first choice and Paschall Truck Lines second choice.

If you can't afford CDL school, try these that have their own school:

    Swift Transportation
    Celadon
    KLLM
    Southern Refrigerated Transport
Millis Transfer - school in Cartersville, GA

"good" is a relative term...... They are the lowest paying (hourly wage) company in the area...........BUT: they have the freight to move to keep you busy if you want (overtime)..... If you need specifics... Message me
