I've been driving a ten speed and know what gear I should be in at every mph. It seems that we are getting a 13 speed, and I was told it would be my truck. I do know the shifting pattern (learned here... Thanks) I assume the bottom six will be out of the way by 20 mph. Could you give me a rough Idea about the rest?

    Thanks... Steve

I have a 13. You should never really need 1st unless you are going from a dead stop up a 6% grade with a full load... been there, done that. Yeah, bottom five are out of the way about 15mph. Split, then 6th goes to about 20, 7th to about 25 or so. 8th to 30, 9th 35... you get the picture. Listen to your engine and watch the rpm. If your ten speed has been a super 10, top will be really easy to learn.

No, Not a super 10. So roughly, 10 is 40, 11 is 45, 12 is 50. I realize that individual trucks will be a little bit different, but at least I will have some idea.

    Thanks... Steve

You mean that you're wanting to shift by the speedometer instead of the tachometer?

Gear rpm to ground speed will depend on your rears.

    Right.

If you want specifics, find out what rpm that particular engine makes max torque numbers and shift there. Dont worry about the MPH, or in your case, KPH.

Forget the speed. Watch The Tach.
1700 rpms is a good place for a upshift.
1200 rpms is a good place to downshift.
Depending on transmission, gearstep in low range will be about 450 to 500 rpms high range will be slightly less.

You shouldn't drive it any different than what you're used to. It's the same as a 9 speed but with the ability to split the top 4 gears. Not rocket science, just getting used to the new found flexibility.
