| IS THAT YOU JOHN WAYNE??? Listen man, for me it's less a question of comfort than it is safety. I just can't sleep when it's 120 degrees in that sleeper no matter how hard I try. If you think I'm a sissy because I don't sleep outside in a lawnchair where I could get robbed or man-raped that's something else, but if you think idling is just a question of comfort you're way way off. I don't drink coffee because it's bad for you, and I don't do any kind of speed or energy drinks for the same reason. I can't function at 100% when I haven't slept at least 7 hours, and I'm SORRY pal but I think if there was ever a job where a person needed to function at 100% it's truck driving. Not just for my own safety but for others. If you think caring about safety means you're a wimp, then I think you should rethink why you are a truck driver. |

This is exactly what I did whenever I got stuck somewhere hot - 15 minutes on, 30 minutes off. This keeps the truck bearably hot (still needed the fan on). I can handle this - but when you're stuck somewhere, even if you spend all day outside the cab and then do this for a few hours before bedtime your DCI will STILL be way above the acceptable level. You've got a truck with Opt Idle? I'm happy for you, but not everyone has that. Also keep in mind that without opt-idle the truck doesn't automatically shut itself down if it gets cooler later on, so the A/C & truck might be running for a couple hours when it doesn't need to be. And I'm not going to set my friggin' alarm and risk not being able to get back to sleep just so I can shut the truck off. |

| When you were someplace hot did you leave the windows down? I guess I'm just a sissy 'cause I feel unsafe in some of these truckstops with the windows down! I guess real men don't mind being bombarded by lot lizards and having people steal stuff out of their truck. I was in the military and I don't mind sleeping with a bug net over me in 120 degree weather even. But to sit there in that truck at a truck stop with the windows down is just plain stupid. Do you think female drivers should do that, too? I mean I'm a guy and I'd even be worried about getting attacked. No matter how tough you are there's always someone who's tougher. Hey, maybe you can shoot the attacker and then go to jail because you weren't supposed to have a gun in the first place. COME ON, BRO!!! |

I'm all for the environment but I realize humans in general have the ability to ruin it, not just non-hippies. |

| I tried that and quite frankly I think it's a joke. If it's 90 degrees and there's no breeze, I find that it's about 100 in that friggin' sleeper with the windows down. Again, if it's a question of comfort, whatever, but when I can't sleep because I'm drowning in sweat it's a question of safety the following day when it's time to drive 700 miles. |

Don't worry abou those dumb comments dude, those guys talking about how "I used to do this and that and "we didn't have this and that" sure don't mind sitting there typing on this forum and taking advantage of their laptop that we didn't have 20 or 30 years ago Hell when I was a kid I remember getting our first window unit a/c at home,it was miserable sleeping at night in Southeast Texas without one. I can see telling my wife and kids if the a/c would break how I used to sleep without one for years and years and I'm not gonna fix it because it's cheaper on the electric bill..........c'mon. |
