I'm not bending over backwards for office people who sit in the a/c all day and go home to a/c every night. You want me to not pollute the precious atmosphere, design a clean engine that works and build the damn thing. There's no excuse beyond greed and laziness for not having one available by now.

If you want AC all day then go get an office job. You aren't bending over for anyone, you are driving a truck. It is not a walk in the park and never has been.

Most of the issue is not polution. It is fuel cost, which by the way, you don't pay for.

Maybe companies should offer a program where you can buy idle time at a cheaper rate than say Idleaire.

I know my point of view on this subject is far and away from the majority. Heck, it might even change after a year or two. For now though, I have no problem with a little sweat of getting off my rear end and going indoors.

I keep my idle under 5% without any trouble at all. I bought a fan for use in places where the relative humidity is low enough to allow for the evaporation of sweat to provide cooling. This works while sitting during the day, or while in the sleeper.

When the fan is not sufficient, I run the truck with AC blasting in the front and back until the Qualcomm beeps at me with a 60 second warning. Then I'll shut off the truck, wait until it's just about uncomfortable, and turn it back on. The Qualcomm counts this time as non-idle and it actually lowers the idle percentage. Keep this in mind the next time you are sitting around during the day and it's not time to sleep. There's no rule I'm aware of regarding turning the truck on and off. Hell, the TAS does that all night long if you set the thermostat low enough.

Speaking of TAS, if it's just too damn hot for the fan to do anything, I'll turn it on and set the thermostat in the bunk. Mind you that it's not set at 68. I set it for around 78 or 80 and deal with it. Is it as cool as I'd like? No. Is it cool enough to sleep through the night, without running my idle percentage through the roof? Yes.
Attitudes like this are the reason for the continous decline in drivers' job conditions! Just guessing here, but do you even travel to the south? What's next? Are you going to take a pay cut so your employer can make a better profit? Are you going to offer to pay for their fuel or truck payment? Maybe we should pay our companies rent b/c we "live" in their truck? Or maybe you are one of those company plants, just on here to stir up trouble, trying to divide and distract us drivers?
I will not just lube myself up for my company to bend me over the fuel tank and put in to me butt good! I have seen my pay and home time decline steadily in the past few years! I have had enough! Maybe you are willing to settle for slave wages and inhumane working conditions, but until the execs and owners of my company are willing to endure the same #### as they ask me to endure, they can kiss my big, hairy butt!!!

See now you are going overboard and bringing other subjects to the. table. Stick with the topic at hand please.

For the sake of not looking like a dodgy individual, I'll answer your questions.

Yes, I am based out of Florida. The last three weeks have consisted of Louisiana, Texas, south Georgia and yes Florida. So I've definitely felt the heat. I'm sitting in 88 degrees right now. The fan is doing a great job so far today.

It was 104 in Aurora, IL a little over a weeks ago and I survived that. Didn't even make the idle go up.

If you can't be bothered to turn the truck on and off to avoid idle time building up you have bigger problems than temperature.

Speaking to your other questions/statements... I think those are all ludicrous ideas and don't compare to the topic at hand in the slightest.
Man up.

Ludicrous ideas? truckers have not seen their rates go up any significant amout in at least 30 years!!! yet the cost of a new truck today has more than tripled! fuel cost, taxes, tolls(same thing as taxes), repairs, food everything has gone up! did anyone see that coming? I would have been called crazy if I predicted today's problems to truckers 30 years ago. it's not getting any better out there. these companies will continue to use and abuse us as long as we let them! My Dad's take home pay was almost twice what I bring home today and he didnt need to work 4 weeks on the road like I find myself doing now! He drove fewer miles and got paid more to do it.
Maybe we should just let the mexicans drive up here, hell, they can probably take the heat better than us white boys!
Someone has said on here recently, our pets are treated better than us. I suggest that livestock probably gets treated better than some drivers! There ought to be a group out there, like another poster suggested, called People for the Ethical Treatment of Truckers!

The hell I don't pay for fuel. I get a good nights rest and hit the road every day. The truck turns a good profit and the company is happy enough to never once mention idling to me. I'm not a slave to that stupid electronic box either. I run this truck like the profit is going straight into my pocket and if it was, I'd still idle the thing as much as I needed too.

The only thing that anti idle fuel saving #### is covering is the cheap worthless freight they're hauling and they only haul it to cut someone else's throat. I have no sympathy for those cheapskate office turds.

Oh it will.
Especially whenever they decide to change to 0% idling time because everyone like yourself gladly adapted to 3 to 5% idling time.

Depends on the weather. If it is in the 70s, and i can catch some breeze with my sleeper vents, i turn on a couple fans, and i'm happy as a clam. If they've got me running in Georgia, Alabama, Texas when its in the high 90s for a LOW, and just as much humidity, forget it. I'm idling the truck. One week i get a message saying "we appreciate your low idle of 9%", but then in the same message they'll tell me to get with my DM and find out how i can get it down to 8% and join 6200 other drivers who are that low. Then the next week ill get a message saying that i was one of the highest idlers.

Know what...dont like it? keep me rollin'. those 6200 drivers who are at 8% or less, are probably team drivers.

I cannot sleep when i'm hot. And if the only way for me to be a safe driver is to get sleep, and in order to sleep i've gotta be cool or comfortable...is to idle....then so be it. Dont like it, fire me, and put some sucker in the truck who will be a good soldier (for the first few weeks before s/he too starts to high idle)

Why, when I started running sleeper across the desert in the 70's we did'nt have air except roll all the windows down and wet a towel. I nearly passed out one time in Barstow when I hit the pavement. 150 degrees on the asphalt. You guys are sissies.

Does this gun make me look fat?
