...let's go back to those days. the cabovers with no air, no power steering, spring ride suspension that would destroy a mans' back and kidneys. running 2 lane roads all over the country. no cell phones.
Maybe drivers were tougher back then, but you didnt know what you didnt have.
Granted those days had their good points also, but if we have the technology to make our lives a little better, why not use it? if not, then lets go back to the horse and buggy days!

i don't idle, generally, unless it's very hot or cold and never did with any company. Mainly because of the noise and vibrations.

However, these new rules/laws are complete gorilla poop and need to be repealed.

1) Why are cops, firefighters, and other gov't employees "allowed" to idle? Driver comfort----EXACTLY! Hello?

2) One state decides to do it (probably california) then all the states suddenly follow along. STUPID.

3) Any company that has anti-idling rules can go stuff themselves also.
a) We are talking approximately under $ 18 a night if the truck idles for 8 hours. My company gives $15 per diem. If a company cannot/will not afford $18 a night then either they should not be in business or there must be an alternative way to save money which indicates poor managment----getting rid of one fleet manager can pay for alot of idling.

We also have, basically, a no-idle rule but we run mostly teams for OTR and thus idling is pretty much unnessesary. Unofficially, if we run solo and the truck has no qualcomm then we can pretty much idle all we want.

So true, except there roughly 3.5 million CDL holders in this country. Too bad most of us dont take the time to vote or even belong to an organization to have our voices heard.
It's a shame when group of people is singled out and persecuted, not for the color of our skin, but solely b/c of what we do for a living.

The guys before that had no sleeper. They carried a piece of plywood to lay across the seats and that was their bed for the night. But I bet they were happier.

Hell, why don't we all just start hunting our own food again and butcher it up hangin off the tree in the backyard? All you old timers that put down the younger generation(s) have no one but yourselves to blame for raising us spoiled lol.

I don't know the specific legal title for this condition, but it goes something like this. If you're married to someone and used to living a certain lifestyle for a long period of time and then you get divorced, the one that has to pay must meet a certain threshold to maintain that type of lifestyle to the one receiving the judgment. I hope that made sense.

IOW, we all grew up with AC and heat and are accustomed to this and expect it. Now I guarantee you, as I've done manual labor in the heat and cold, as soon as I got home, I was in that air conditioned house living comfortably.

Hell, even schools are air conditioned and I grew up going to them thar schools.

What's the point? You raised us that way, so deal with it!!!

My dad drives for a trucking company and they are telling him that if he idles his truck that he may face termination. I think that this is crazy. Is there any laws out there that goes against this. In my opinion, it is not very safe for a trucker to have to sleep in a truck with the windows down, due to the fact that a robbery or murder could occur. Any help or resources would be greatly appreciated.

If you find any laws out there that would protect a driver, pls let us know! But I would bet a dozen doughnuts that nothing like that exists. Apparently, judging by most companies policies, We are not worth the $25-$30 a night that it might cost to idle a truck for 10 hours a nite.

I was just informed a few minutes ago that I am on probation and subject to possible termination for my high idle time. The company's goal is less than 20%. So if I drive 10 hrs, I am allowed to idle NO MORE THAN 2 HOURS!

My question for the forum is should I just resign now or let them fire me???
