Truckers have been doing that for a while. They wised up to it and tweaked the law so the pets don't matter. They figure you can leave them at home since you know you can't idle your truck for any reason so it's your fault if anything happens to them.

most engines burn about 1 gallon/hour when idling. at today's fuel prices, that's $25-$30 for 10 hrs.Drivers are not worth that. But that load of produce, meat etc..., gotta keep that cool(or warm) no matter what it takes! when are we going to get it? drivers are worthless! thats what they keep telling us

1) Why are cops, firefighters, and other gov't employees "allowed" to idle? Driver comfort----EXACTLY! Hello?

.
Didja ever notice that when the Cops, Firefighters, or EMS, etc are idling, that the only ones actually working IN the vehicle are the EMS folks?

I asked a cop once why they left their vehicles running, and he responded so that the battery didn't die from the gumballs.

Y'all are starting to make me wonder if this career change I'm embarking on is worth the hassles - or if I should bring along my portable generator once I get my own truck.

I'm thinking exactly what you're thinking, and than they want $3000 to go to CDL school so I can get a job where I can't run a/c at night or a heater???
I'm glad for right now I have a job,to you drivers out there my hat's off to you guys.
It's a crying shame that (most) companies actually treat their workers like that.

Yeah ,My Bad I meant 1 gallon per hr
Thats why I spend $40 at Motel 6 for anything over 10 hr. and try to keep the truck off for at least 2 of the 10.
You do what you can to save fuel when it comes out of your pocket.
Next round of trucks will have AP's

Well, first of all i said idle for 8 hours not 10.

And, i think most engines are going to use a little less than a gallon per hour.

So, i'm sticking with around $18 or less per night. And if a company can't afford that, they really shouldn't be in business.
