Werner as a start

My wife and i just started driving school with a local driving academy here in louisiana, National Driving Academy. We went this morning and did our test for our permit and should wihin the week be getting some experience as for as cones, alley docks, etc.. Werner called today, looking for my wife. I strictly told the lady that we were interested in team driving. Any opinions on werner as a starter company?

P.S. My grandpaw drove trucks for many years. He lived in Brookhaven, Mississippi. His name was David O (R.I.P).. Anyone know him from the road? I can't remember his handle.

There have been extensive discussions about Werner and many other large "starter" companies. Search and ye shall receive.

Good Luck.

I drove for them for 6 months,I as far I experience wasnt that bad.I only had 2 trainers and both where great. The only down side was I didnt get good home time and about a month before I left I was sitting anywhere from 2-4 days waiting on a load. But this was the time where things were getting real bad and loads where more harder to get.I was a solo driver but I was post to team up with someone but dont know what happen but it never happen. You do know during your training which I think now is 300 hours you both will have to go by your selfs with a trainer.Once you both get done with training, then you may team up.

Please do one thing when you start reading about Werner or any of the big companies, do not believe everything you read. This is a wonderful forum loaded with more information than you could possibly ever digest but, there is a lot of opinion posted. Some of it is real good fact and a great deal of it is the posting of unhappy people or people who's boyfriend, girlfriend, or the friend of a friend who wasn't happy. You'll need to deal in fact rather than emotion, so you can make a wise decision. Take what you read with a grain of salt. Do your homework. Read what's on here, go to other sites, and go to a truckstop and talk to Werner drivers. Also talk to their recruiters, but have a list of questions to ask them, don't be shy about asking anything you think is important. Remember, they won't be shy when they want to know all about you. If you don't like what you hear or you don't have a good feeling about it, then maybe this isn't the company for you. Ask about teams, pay, benefits, hometime, etc. Best of luck to the two of you!

Figured that werner would split us up when we went out with trainers. I have no problem with that as long as they put my wife on with a female trainer, raises to many flags the other way round. We are also keeping it open for now, as for as other companies. One being covenant which will actually train us on the same truck. Thanks for the replies.
