Cool ... hey FastForward ???

Just curious... why would you want to go back over the road when you already have the job all of us OTR drivers are hoping to get? I just started back driving, wanted local but no one wants to hire me local without RECENT otr experience. So I took what I could get to try and get me back where I want to be... local.

I was working for US Foods here in Paducah. They laid off about 30 of us, all together between Knoxville,Memphis, and Montgomery was about 300 people. US Foods lost the Sonic contract. I got laid off March 7th. They gave us all a months pay, and 3 months insurance. I got on unemployment 3 weeks after, and then was getting moved in to out brand new house that we have been waiting for all winter. It's been too wet to do alot of construction. So my job since mid April was being general contractor to my own home. Now we have went from no house payment to $700 a month.
There isnt much local out there right now. I dont have my hazmat, ( i did until last Jan when i renewed my licence.) I didnt think that I would need them, and money was a little tight after Christmas. I also dont have my doubles. I dont want them either, dont want to drive them "wiggle waggons"
My wife and I have been married for less then a year and we both have 3 kids each. I cant take a $10.00 a hour job driving a dump truck and try to make it on that. I did that for 10 years when I had my B CDL. Going back OTR isnt going to be a perment idea, just for a little while to get a head and kids in full time school. My wife is quiting her full time bank job to stay home with the kids, although she might still do part-time for a month or so.
Also, I liked being on the road. I have a good wife, that I can trust this time..LOL Dont have to worry about this one, snorting up my pay check !

Maverick Question

I currently work for WH Trans. out of Wausau,WI and they are closing the doors on the van division at the end of July and I happen to be one of the unlucky van drivers.I have been with them for a year and a half and had 3 mos with USA truck before this(that's a whole other story) and no exp. pulling a skateboard. What kind of training would Maverick put me thru?Do I need to go out with a trainer or just a load securement course and read read read that load securement book at the truck stop lol I've been looking to go flatbeddin and Maverick has all the things I want.Home home home on the weekends, those d**n autoshift transmissions that made me lazy lol which I kinda like now that I'm used to it,nice trucks and the drivers seem to be pretty decent people.anywho I'll shut up,but yeah, any idea on that training question? That and when I get with Maverick I can tell all the ladies "there ain't nothin better than a flatbedder" right!

They will put you through their load securement training (paid) and you might have to do a ride check. Not sure, but with no flat exp I would say out with a trainer for a few days maybe. Good luck! Keep us posted.

From what I've heard from their drivers, they're a great company. I heard they've had some problems with the specialized division they took over from Schneider...problems with waiting to load/unload or something, but every Mav driver I've talked to, to a man, says it's a great company and they're glad they went there. Congratulations. I like to make fun of them because they have those sissy automatics, though.
