I am getting ready to attend school. If i have a misdemeanor charge that was dropped will that still hurt me with getting a job? Even though i wasnt convicted, because i know it still shows that it was dropped when they run the check.

Won't be a problem IF you report it. Just put down what it was and that it was dropped. If you don't then thats a false app and that is a problem.

If you were not charged and it is not on your MVR or back ground check, then do not list it.

    TMI, not necessary.

Listing it will just cause red flags to go up with your potential employer, that you will have to explain.

If it is resolved, leave it resolved.

    Best to you!!!

If you are being asked if you have ever been CONVICTED of anything, you can in all honesty say no. How can you get in trouble for being honest? If it does show up, you can explain then. If you were asked if you have ever been CHARGED I would disclose it.

Too much information will always get you in trouble. Answer all questions honestly. But that is it. They don't need to know you stole Billy's eraser in 5th grade. Don't embellish, don't go into this huge great detail.

But again, this is MY opinion.

I appreciate all the advice. I was alittle nervous about it.

Just read the questions on the application carefully and answer what they ask. Don't lie on the application, but if they wanted your life story they would ask for it. Don't volunteer your life story.

In most trucking companies lying on your application is reason for termination, even if what you lie about is not something that would have prevented them from hiring you. In a previous life I was seeking employment in a very sensitive field with 100 applicants for every position. What I did was get an application well in advance and see what the company wanted to know. The companies were so selective that it was common practice to get a friend, not family, to request an application, so you don't get your name in their system until you know if you meet their requirements. Then I'd fill out the app and keep a copy for me, in case I needed to remember any "shading" of history during the interview. Trucking isn't nearly as strict as all that but it never hurts to be prepared for exactly what you will face.

From the OP...you were charged with it, but it was dropped. If you look in your governments judicial website, i know some states have them, and run a court check in your county, it will show what charges were issued to you, and their disposition. If you were ever charged with anything, regardless what it was, and the charges were dropped, it will still show up.

In this industry, half the job is C.Y.A. Might as well start now. I'd honestly list it, THEN explain it when/if you're asked about it. If i was your possible employer, and you DIDN'T tell me about it, and i run your backround check and it comes up, red flags would go off in my mind and i'd think you were trying to hide something.

But that aside....haven't you looked enough on this (or any other) trucker website about being a driver right now?? You know how many change careers for one reason or another, go thru school, drop $4,000 then sit at home because its only after school they find out the company they THOUGHT they were hired with, isnt hiring? And even if you DO get on, after your weeks with a mentor, you will probably do a great deal of sitting. Not earning much of a paycheck.

I'd look into a more solid job.....like lobbyist on Capital Hill, or heck, try running for office as a twisted, back stabbing congressman. I'm sure there aren't many of those looking for work........since they are all currently employed. =)

You have to be careful with words used in an application.

    Read the application completely.

Words like charged, convicted, reported, unreported are key to any questions asked of you. You must pay close attention to these details.

Sitting through a deposition with a lawyer is rather refreshing. Especially when you understand a question ask of you, better than your own lawyer understood it.

Filling an application out, is no differant. A simple charge can put you on the list for "No Canada". Just as easily as a felony.

Even if the company doesn't see it. You can bet it will show on NCIC. And that can leave you between a rock and a hard place at the border.

Aww..I'll blab this to the world, lol! My ####### x..instead of divorcing me figured out a way to get rid of me. He had the house and property before we were married...legally,mind you,and I was dumb ### in love and trusted him and didn't put my name on anything, duh! So when he didn't want to be married anymore he filed a no trespass order on me! Now we had two businesses, race cars, tow trucks, tons of stuff...but they all sat on the property. When the cops came and told me to leave or they would arrest me for trespassing I turned around, put my hands behind my back and said 'TAKE ME'! Dirty little town...Battle Mountian,NV. So of course I was found guilty...x has a cops in the family. Now I have a misdemeanor trespass on my record...########. But I came clean and told all on my application..I had no problem whatsoever!
