You need ankle support in this job. Redwings are absolutely the best shoes, costly yes, but last years. Think about wearing tennies in slushy snow or sheets of ice. Can you say "whoa Nelly"?

well, I personally thought I'd change my shoes before getting out in the slushy snow or on sheets of ice.

I don't drive my car in high heels..I change my shoes.

I cant speak on the issue of leg and foot pain, I dont incur any while driving.

Ive never been a sandal wearing person in my life, but imo, they are my best friends INSIDE the truck and for easy get outs at fuel stops/restroom breaks. The company you drive for will probably advise against them.... And likewise, I wouldn't be seen in them at a scalehouse/point of entry or at shipper's/receiver's and any other spots where you need to look professional. But hands down for driving and sliding quickly into sleeper berth/bed my sandals are my best friends. I keep a pair of tennis shoes under the bunk for anytime I might get to take a walk in a nice spot or go shopping and such and I keep a pair of wallyworld $20 dollar work boots to do all the actual "work" OUTSIDE the truck and for rainy days, shippers/receiver's etc..., keep 'em right behind the passenger seat.

If Im runnning a short trip say 350-600 miles or I know Im going to need to be out a couple times for working purposes during the day I may just keep my workboots on.... but on long cross country runs nothing beats a pair of sandals for driving long hours

As a New Tanker Driver I want to have my feet well protected. I went with a Water Proof, Composite Wide Toe Red Wing Boot. I have a slight orthodic that I have in the boot also that improves the arch area. I used these through my 6 weeks of School and now the last few weeks at work. I bounced a hose end off my toes the other day and never knew it.

Well worth the money and expense.

Along with having to have white sheets on the bunk?

I kept a pair of slip on mocks next to the seat, figured if they were going to find out i wasnt wearing shoes it was because i was upside down so not wearing shoes was the least of my worries. Kept steel toe boots over in front of the pass seat for working on the truck or places that needed them. By not going past the drivers seat with the shoes it was alot easier to keep the inside of the truck clean.

I like to clean the trucks I drive every other day. Three people in it makes it dirty fast. Back to the original question. I wear a pair of carhartt slip on boots. No shoe laces for me. One less thing to worry about. I have got them so broke in that the are so much more comfortable than tennis shoes to me. I was walking to a TA in Great Falls MT just after a 18" snow fall. The guy walking with me had tennis shoes on. I had my boots. We both stepped through a pile of snow. Next thing I hear is his cussing because his feet were wet from a puddle underneath the snow. I didn't have a problem. I did try tennis shoes once. They wern't near as comfortable as I thought that they would be.

Crash935 Calif has a law requiring footwear. I don't know how's it worded, but footwear is required. Torque2drive like most here I wear normal street shoes. I do recommend getting a pair of steel toed boots as some shippers and recievers require them.

Heels while driving a truck...new spin I'd like to see that. :biggrin_25523:

Me...my broke in cowboy boots and my partner in her favorite fluffy socks. Yeah, yeah you not suppose to barefooted but some things I don't care about anymore. She has her clogs next to the seat so it's not a big deal. :biggrin_25524: I figure it she's putting down 700 miles a night who am I to say what she has on them feet.

If I have to wear safety shoes, then Redwings for #### sure. Other than that I wear New Balance walking shoes. Absolutely love them!
