I'm really sorry if there's a load of this information on the site already; I did look beforehand but didn't find anything.

So I'm 19 and living in England. My dad was a truck driver in his day and I want to follow the same route he did. He said trucking criteria for young people has seriously changed over the years (unsuprisingly) and that I should get feedback from people who are newly graduated from tests since they'll be able to give me a clearer vision on what it's like to be new to trucking in this day and age.

My first question is what courses would I need to take? Obviously there's the theory test and the driving and medical, but there are also other things I'll need to know. I need technical terms for these courses; the DVLA gave me next to no information on this. Also, would I need a regular car driving license to move onto a truckers license?

Secondly, what is cost like? I've heard it can go from £500 to £5000. That's a little pricey for somebody like me who has little to no funds whatsoever and hasn't currently got a job. Is there a way the government could pay for it for me and then I would pay them back in installments once I managed to find work in the transportation industry?

Third, are there places in London or Surrey where I can train for this? Once I have the license, distance obviously isn't an issue, but whilst I don't have my own car, it's difficult to get around.

I'm sure I have a million other questions I'll need help with, but that's it for now. Excuse my ignorance!

Thank you for reading and thank you for any replies in advance.

Off the subject Daisy, but welcome to the industry, for better or for worse! There is a section for drivers in Europe and England that should have more info for you. And where did you find that funny lookin "L" symbol on your keyboard? LOL!!
