You can go to school together and get you CDL together. Most companies will separate you for training, however, I've heard of a few that train teams at the same time. But, that's way too cozy for me. 3 in a truck at the same time. Can you say "snuggle up" ?

How long is the company training, usually?

Figure 4-6 weeks, but it could be more, or less. Most companies rely on the trainers having the say-so. But some companies, such as Prime, require certain miles to be completed. Plus figure a woman sometimes has to wait for a female trainer. And, trainers do quit sometimes, which means finding another.

Check expediting companies needing teams in straight trucks . I remember a member here saying a team got put in truck right out of school

I would go through a community college program together and then try to get a company to train you. Odds are, if you go through company sponsored school one of you will make it, and the other won't. My class started out with 30 people when I went through trucking school. When it was all said and done there were 8 of us left. The reasons for getting dismissed ranged from failing the drug test, having too many accidents on record, medical problems, etc. You get the idea.

IROCUBabe has it right many companies treat their teams much differently. The company my wife and I work for didn't hire students but they hired her. I also think we get treated better than solo drivers. We never have a problem if we need a extra day or two for home time. And we very rarely sit waiting for a load. As for the original question by Team Two,you can go to school together but you will train apart. My wife had to go with her trainer for 4 weeks before they would let her drive with me. The best thing about team driving is $$$. Teams absolutly make more than solo drivers.

The company I work 4 trains teams in much the same way as described.
School together to get your CDL then 4 weeks with a trainer and you will be kept together.
After that 60 days together just the 2 of you but you are still training in what they call q fleet.
There are a few other companys who train teams together, think crst does too & the previous comment about bending over backwards to accomadate teams is true.
