Hey Cactus Jack, you and Kicken Chicken have both mentioned Howard Transportation. Do you know of anyone that's driven for them? I don't think there are any posts that speak from experience about them on here.

Their website says nothing about pay rates, hometime, etc. I was just accepted by Maverick, so I'm a happy camper.. er driver. But a better offer is a better offer and HT is closer to my home.

Howard Transportation mails out applications and you have to mail it back. VERY old school. Old school is fine by me, as long as they have direct deposit.

I worked for them....I would not had suggested them if I had not.....
You would be a happy camper if you gave them a phone call.....
They are not only a trucking company but an manufacturing company.....
    They haul their own freight.....
You will be recession proof ......
    they make transformers .......
Maverick might be ok.... I just got done turning them down and if i were not in oklahoma I would be with H.T.

They have Fax machines too....you probably can ask to get one faxed to ya....If ya said pretty please....HAHAHA

Thanks CJ! They sent the app. I'll get it filled out and send it on in. Thanks for the info! I assume their pay is competitive. Does HT try to get their drivers home most weekends like Maverick and BTC? I really don't care about a companies benefits as my insurance is through my wife's work.

HT is only 215 miles down I-59 from my house. So it would probably be easy if they operate that way. What makes HT so attractive is that they are only 150 trucks and like you said, they haul their own stuff. That would lend to more stability.

A lot of local trucking companies where I live do not recommend a certain over the road experience. They just want tractor trailer experience. It is not always true that you have to get over the road experience in order to get a good local driving job where you can be home everyday. That is a lie.

I've ran for Melton, and they were a really great company. In the past few years, they've opened up to hiring fresh out of school drivers, and that has IMHO caused some problems. When I hired on, I talked to drivers and hometime was hometime. From what I hear of my friends who stayed after I left.... I hope they get back to what made them great.

Might as well be asking about Ford vs. Chevy. Most people give you a opinion with little knowledge about the mechanics.

That's not an unfair point. I liked my dispatcher at Melton. They have the top 5% industry pay, they gave drivers a pay increase in August of 2013. These are facts. Maverick beats it out in mileage pay, but not in tarp or stop pay. Tractor is a preference, as is transmission. Hometime is objective, but there are enough drivers to get a feel of the market.
