Hi everyone,
I am a recent 4 year college who ran into this site about 2 months ago searching for the right trucking school, got a tremendous help from members of this community of which I am grateful of. I finished the PTDI certified training at the top of my class with an average score of 95%, and now stuck in the dilemma of choosing between potential employers. I live in philadelphia, PA; CRST, Crete, FFE, Prime Inc,TranAm, PAM Trans, US Express, and Wil-Trans offered me company driver position.
I eliminated CRST because of their notorious "strictly teamly policy" (same a us express with the inclusion of Auto transmission as equipment) and their .11c per mile they sell to you as .22c per mile. Sorry, being a newbie does not automatically equate to selling your labour at a price very much below market price and I can certainly do simple arithmetics.
I kinda eliminated PRIME INC because they want me to drive 80,000 miles as a trainee before graduating to a regular company driver position. 80k is a factor of availability of work, supply and demand, and certainly time. No one will have me crisscrossing the country sides with no real load to deliver since 80k miles implies running hard at the rate of 5k a week to finish in 4 months and not so many veterans out there are running 5k miles per week talk-less of a newbie. Plus Prime also have a bad reputation on this forum. If prime enrolls me into their tanker or flatbed division, I will seriously reconsider my position and it will be for the sake of the experience.
Wil-Trans wants me to sign a contract to be with the company for 15 months to protect them from the cost of reefer training they will offer me ...sorry, I will pass....
I am also considering FFE outta Lancaster TX, they don't seem like they have a good reputation and the newbie program isn't any different from most but I get my truck after 6 weeks of training.
I really don't care about benefits and all other shenanigans that comes with employment as incentives(i will go for those after I gain the experience), I care about miles, and the experience since I plan to run tight and hard. I am prepared to kiss ##### just for that experience. But I will like to be on an ok platform so I don't fall off when ##### hit the fan. Graduation from the training face to probation face in a timely manner means a lot to me. I certainly dont want a company that will show me the door right after they get that mythical $5k government new driver employment grant. Please fellas, I know I am being picky but I really need your advices.
Which company should i choose??

Check out Millis Transfer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very good training company to driver for.
Markscorpiorias Thanks this. -
FYI, Wil-Trans is a small fleet leased to Prime. I wouldn't be too picky, you might just ski-roo your self out of a job. Actually, Prime's training is thorough, more so than a week with a trainer and then solo. And trust me, you want the most complete training you can get in this business.

Before going thru all this Screening bull, have you reaffirmed that those companies are hiring at this time, in Your area !! I've never worked at any of those scrummy companies, but I wish you-- Good Luck !!

May have nuther rocit scientist on board........

I get it...he didn't graduate, and daddy aint gonna pay no more tuition...so out to the highways....but be exceptionally picky about who gives you your start! Besides, nowadays, it takes five and sometimes six years to earn your degree in a "4 year program". -
