Hi, I'm an NZ resident of the north Island. I could desperately use some help if possible! I've been the victim of a few accidents over the past 2 years, which has caused my confidence on the road to wane. In fact, it is now very difficult for me to even go out of town in a vehicle as it brings on a lot of anxiety. Which really brings me to my problem! My husband & I are planning to go away for our 12th anniversary & are heading to taupo, and were wondering what the possibility would be of being able to travel there in a truck, as we both love them but have never been in one for any length of time & are always looking for awesome new things to do together. but the main reason for my question is that we cannot afford a plane to our destination, passenger trains don't stop in taupo & we both believe the height of a truck off the road may lessen the amount of anxiety i feel.

Please help if you can! Thank-you in advance.
    Kind regards, Tania!

Hello and Welcome to the forum:)

Most companies that do allow passengers to ride along, require a signed release of liability form...Most drivers do this for their family members. The possibility of you being able to find a driver that would take you to your destination would be slim to impossible.
Plus, if you have anxiety attacks then you would be better off hiring a driver (4 wheeler) to take you there.
This is just my humble opinion:)

    Best of Luck!!!!

depending on how far from Taupo you live, it would probably be just a few hours drive. You could do a search in local ph books for trucking companies in your area, maybe call them and ask. Main Freight is a fairly large outfit, also some of the moving companies.
The other thing to do is to advertise in your local paper, asking if anyone is going to or through Taupo and offer to pay towards petrol etc.

Not a lot of independant owner operators in New Zealand, and I agree with kickin chicken about the liability issue, although its not the same as here in the states, there would still be company rules and regs that drivers would have to follow. Good luck to you.
