Help for a New Freight Broker

I am a new freight broker working for a larger company in Dallas, TX and I wanted to know if anyone out there had any good advice.

If anyone knows of any companies that are broker friendly or want to give me the scoop on what industries are hot durring different times of the year I would really appreciate it. I am not in this to run people into the ground, i just want to put food on the table yano?

Thanks again for any and all help.

You would've been better off to say you were from SWIFT Safety. You're behind the 8-ball already and will need to prove yourself. Who are you brokering for?

As for what industries are hot...no one here is going to hand you the lollipop. Do your research if you really want to DO THIS and learn it yourself. The more you know about the industry and how it works, the better off you will be.

Also, learn to treat drivers with respect. If you're rude and try to scam them...they will smell you a mile away and you'll quickly lose all credibility.

dido on 2nd post but also think about this too, a fair price to move freight will get you more business and dont give a overbearing cut % rate. i would say, just my thought, in the range of 10 - 20% cut from the total rate. say the freight moves @ 2.55pm on a 1200mi run pays = 3060.00 and your cut will be say at 15% 459.00.

be fair, most of all be straight forward and honest. itll go a long way to keep drivers coming back to you for business and for shippers/receivers giving you good marks as well.

Exactly what SmokeyCowboy said - if you pay a "fair" rate all year round then I won't ask for more when I can. If your rate drops $300 in two weeks for no reason other than freight got slower in that area then next year during busy season I'm going to get my $300 back PLUS interest AND penalties (CH Robinson - branch will remain a secret but I can't wait til June!!)

On a serious note - I'd much rather work with a few fair honest brokers that I can build a relationship with than have to constantly "hustle" new ones. I understand brokers sure don't do what they do for fun and need to turn a profit but I'm sure some of the rates I've been offered over the past couple weeks would have resulted in a 30-40% cut for the broker and in my opinion that is not justified. Be fair and you will have a loyal following of drivers that will provide excellent service for your (our) customer which allows both growth (more loads) and more revenue ( rate increases).

so why u not follow your advice than?
I know you are freight broker who think truck drivers are stupid, so u can come on my post and pretend like you dont understend what i'm saing, I know this tactic, when people tring to put somebody down they act like that.

2 all freight brokers advise from truck driver.
There is three rules how to cache attention of drivers:

First rule is dont be greedy

second rule is dont be greedy

third rule is learn rule 1 and 2.

    I'm serious, no joke.
And dont think that you are smarter then truck driver or somebody else.
Drivers who are reading this forum not stupid for sure.

Brokers are the leeches in the industry. If they never existed freight rates would be much higher by eliminating the middle (broker) man.

Right...because there wouldn't be someone else trying to get the rates down and truckers undercutting each other. You guys are unbelievable.

Freight rates are higher now than they have ever been.

If you aren't seeing them..................somebody stole from you.
