Help 2 Scale questions ...

1) Exactly what happens when you have to pull into a scale?

2) I know some trucks have a scale pass. Green you can pass, and red you have to pull in. If the scale pass turns green, is the time recorded in the box somehow also? If so, could it be used against you on your logs?

3) Are there times when you go into a scale, but get waved around the scales and don't have to stop? This is on the asumption that there is at least one lane or larger area where trucks could go around the scales. Like a drive through. You can go in the drive thru lane, or go around that lane and park or exit the area.

4) If you get waved around, do you have to log that you were even at the scale?

The Answer

Driver, pull your log book around back and bring the truck inside.

Well, it depends on the size of the station. If it has a bypass lane, then chances are you may be told by a sign to proceed through the bypass lane.

This is the "Pre-Pass" system. There is an electronic device over the right lane of the highway that reads the "Pre-Pass" transponder like at the toll plazas. If you get a green light, don't even bother pulling in.

As far as whether the time is recorded, I dunno. Stands to reason it would be though.

That's the bypass lane I mentioned earlier.

No. You didn't stop for longer than 15 minutes, so if you go right through a scale via a bypass lane you don't have to log it.

I love those Illinois coops, seems like no matter what I was doing, I ALWAYS got a red light. After which, I would get to roll through the bypass. Ahh, the simple joys of the road...
And then I got pulled into the POE near SLC, and I thought I was in trouble, 'cause we were slightly over gross. No such problem, stop each axle on the scale and then leave!
You don't need to tell me to re-enter highway twice!

Angry And, please don't forget....

Make sure you only proceed at half the posted speed limit across the "weigh in motion", or, "pat" scales. That way, you'll get to know your fellow truckers who are following you, and, may get to spend some quality time sitting on the the big platform scale where your weight/size can be more easily scrutinized.
