So now I'm following Warren Buffet, Well I guess there is more money in that than following Jimmy Buffet. My major gig lately has been railroad work, and more specifically electric railroad stuff. Loads and loads of electrical equipment to the railroad. I guess you can't get any lower carbon footprint than electric rail.

That mandatory teaming thing is gonna be a real big problem for the LTL carriers running day cabs and the dump truck drivers....

And I haven't yet figured out how they are gonna stuiff two people into a cement mixer cab, much less have one of them sleeping.

Are you in business to make money? I would guess that the answer is YES! then do so... or, close the business, (which undoubtedly makes much more carbon emissions than just the shipping portion of it) and sit naked in the woods deeply concerned about the globe.

Good post.

As for the carbon foot print call Al Gore. He knows what he is talking about.........after all he invented the internet.

What a joke, and whats an even bigger joke is how the nutz like Gore have gotten the sheeple to buy into his nonsense there by greatly increasing his bank accounts.

Hey that's it. I'm going to buy a locomotive. Then I can be a Train O/O. Think there is a good railroad to lease on to? Then I can have train horns. Oh boy oh boy oh boy I have always wanted train horns, I was just always afraid everyone would laugh at me.

If you think Caterpillar parts are pricey, just wait til you have to bust down a motor in your locomotive. And don't come crying to me when you get your fuel bills. 2500 gallons at 2.79 equals how many bonus points on your fuel card?

Now in all reality. I know guys who are locomotive O/Os. But what most of them run are like the 44 and 45 ton GM and GE switchers. For the most part they are all old power plants like a pair of 6-71 Detroits, or 220 Cummins. Sometimes they will have a pair of later model 855 inch Cummins in them. The guys that are really hooked up have little shortlines, such as the kind that might serve an industrial park. Now and again I do work for these guys hauling MOW (Maintenance Of Way) equipment.

Truckers

GE 44 Ton Switcher.

We own a couple of switching locomotives where I work. We have a couple of railyards that are big enough that it is justified to hve our own engines to move cars around and get things set up. We pull cars out and get the outgoing trains made up and sitting on a track, and then the local shuttle locomotive picks them up at night and drops off the full cars. We even have the loco's done up with the company logo on them.
