European Class 8 Trucks?
Hi, can anyone suggest the European equivalents to North American Class 8 tractors? I found one name, Mercedes Actros but since they have different truck classes (e.g. large goods vehicle - N3), I'm having a bit of difficulty figuring out what key terms to google.

Actros is ok, quality has gone down in recent years, still a pretty good truck! The ride and how quiet the cab is it unbelievable! Unlike America the euro zone doesn't give you a choice of engines , tranny etc so if you buy a bad truck it's all bad! Volvo's here are completely different than over there( which I only just learnt ) in fact if you're an o/o here the only truck to buy is a Volvo or scania! Scania will last much longer, nicer to drive and they ride very nice too! Scania engines and gearboxes are legendary! Imagine old cat's or cummins, they still make them like that! 2m no problem!
I'm in the heavy haulage game, I have a question for an American! We deal with cat's all the time! They still make a great engine, why are they rebadging maxxforce engines as their own? Maxxforce are crap! I think they could ruin cats image, maxxforce are MAN engines here! I know the emissions crap but cat are one of the best in the world surely the can overcome the emissions crap?

What do you think of Volkswagen Trucks? I only learned a couple months ago that VW made heavy trucks. With the countless vehicular brand names that Volkswagen owned I would have maybe assumed they are built under another name.
Anyway, I think they have a peculiar appearance to them. One that I'm not sure whether I love it or want to throw up a little.

I've never actually seen one for real, they are not available in Europe believe it or not, main reason I think is vw have a share in MAN (they build your maxxforce engines) MAN have been a big player in Europe so I reckon they wouldn't want to interfere with sales despite the fact MAN. are crap! A few years ago vw also acquired The majority stake in scania , for this reason it's unlikely to see the vw brand here.
I think it's an ugly truck but I've no idea what the quality is like, could be a good truck!

The word around is rebadging was the cheapest and quickest way to get a truck out. And over time they will take more control over the truck. That came from my cat dealer. I spend so much time there I should draw a salary. Back to the thread what are the eastern euro trucks like? Always thought the cz mx bikes were trick back in the day!

European trucks we get here in South Africa'
Scania R & P series , Volvo FL FM & FH series , Mercedes Axor Actros , MAN TGA TGX , Iveco Eutrotech Stralis Cargotech , Renault , DAF LF CF and XF
We do get the VW as well but it comes from Brazil not Europe.
They may assemble them here Im not sure.
They are finished off well and the chassis is neat like a MAN.
They are Cummins powerd.
