| Well I suppose the brotherhood still exsists. I guess I just didn't see it at first but after reading all these posts I'm convinced it's still there. I think one of the big reasons I thought it was gone was because at truckstops and rest area's everyone was acting as if there was nobody else around but I could remember about ten years back when we'd stop at truckstop's there would be guy's laughing and talking with each other. I guess I'll just have to pay closer attention. Thanks everybody. |

But it really is nice when you cross paths with another driver who is looking for a conversation, because like you know, it can make states disappear before you realize how long you've been talking. You keep them going, they keep you going, and you make a new friend that you will be looking for. |

| Burky,no offense ,but you are way off base on this one. Anyone ,or citizen will attest to the way it used to be in the ole days. it was as real as I am alive here today. We sat down and broke bread together, all of us,from bikers to grandmothers, ate talked trucks and family and world problems of all sorts, all colors, all races, etc.,you will never see it these days. What I do see today, are a few drivers chatting outside mostly, getting together in the truck, sometimes three or four,or just two, smoke a joint together, that is the comradery,I see these days versus the old days. We were not angels back then either,we had the drugs, speed pills and smoke, but the other good things were much more fun,the helping others, not as much swearing, especially in certain states,I won't get into that. In the old days you could look anywhere ,there would be multiple folks talking outside truckstops and polishing trucks together, eating inside and conversing like normal peope, instaed of a few really loud folks sitting there at the counter talking loud so everyone can hear them, again ,not everyone, sometimes there is intelligent clean drivers sitting and talking a great conversation that is interesting and not real loud. It isn't everyones' fault why things have changed though, most is due to the pressure that is put on these new era drivers, they are working more instead of driving more, worn out, tired, fighting traffic all day, taking hours to load and unload, having some dispatchers who don't like their jobs and just half a.. apply themselves. Same thing as the teachers, nurses and drs and lawyers, their focus has changed thru the years, didn't become a teacher or nurse for really teaching and helping people, they just chose to work a job to survive. In the old days, they would have almost done it for free, just to help people. Don't get this critisism wrong, there are far too many great teachers, drivers etc that are great folks, its just the bad ones that show up.In the old days we had more time to help others,to converse more, less traffic, better shippers and receivers, but again, its not their fault at times they are working their tails off with more bosses than workers and srewing each other to get more money or prestige by taking the bosses job. Overall you newbees are great folks, but I would like to see more socialism everywhere,at the truckstops, shippers, receivers, and on the cb,lets clean it up out there. |
