I can't believe you even started a poll like this. It's people like you that we have the reputation we have now. If you want to play Billy Big Rigger, do it when noone else is around. As for my opinion, if you tried that s*** on me and hit my trailer, a busted truck would be the least of your worries.

Drafting is just another word for tailgating. Do you like tailgaters? I dont either.

You do realize this is from someone driving a car right? And if someone came along at the right moment you might not even notice they were back there.

As stated above, drafting is tailgating. Would you want someone riding that close to the rear or your vehicle?

Personally, I would hate to damage your vehicle in any way. If a rock flew up or a tire blows out or whatever else the truck may kick up along the highway. Also, if you are that close to me I most likely won't even know you are back there, so that creates a lot of problems for both of us.

Truck drivers are called "professional drivers" but shouldn't everyone be as professional and as safe as possible?

If you run into the back of my truck because I have to stop suddenly I may get into a lot of trouble with my company, but it is going to physically hurt you a whole lot more than me. You may never walk again or worse, but I will get fired and get a black mark on my record, but I could probably find a job and go on with my life.

So for your safety and mine, please don't tailgate (draft) and just drive as courteous and safely as we both possibly can.

Be careful out there,

Dave

In both posts, I see one thing. It seems you think we know every personality on the road. Guess what? We dont. We dont know if a doped up meth head is following us, or Dale Jarrett himself. 4 wheelers have a bad enough reputation as it is, so we drive with this in mind.

I wish I had the pictures online to show you, but I will do my best at describing them. BTW these were from a co worker with 18yrs OTR. It showed a Pontiac Grand Am that rear ended him. The front of the car was wedged under the rear bumper up to about the windshield. The car was drug behind him for a 1/4 mile or more, if I remember correctly. She wasnt killed, but she didnt walk away.
I guess she couldnt 'stop on a dime' huh?

One thing that would make the roads a little safer...is appreciation and understanding. People appreciating us for what we do and what we put up with. We are hauling YOUR goods, and without them, you will perish.

/end soapbox

you need to learn following distances Perception Time and Reaction time...

According to DOT, ATA, Perception time is 1/4 second, Reaction Time is 1 second, break lag time for cars is probably instant so anyway if your following a semi with in 1 second of following distance you will be in a accident if they slam on their brakes...

To judge following distance pick a fixed object that appears to be even with the vehicle infront of you then count one onethousand or Mississippi, until the object has reached the front of the your vehicle that is how to determine your following Distance and you should adjust accordingly
