trucking routes, new york city, 1960

Hi there-

I'm working on a research project and I was wondering if anybody out there could tell me about the life of a trucker in and around New York City, particularly Brooklyn, in 1960. Could anyone who wanted to, at that time, buy a route, and what would that entail, exactly? Also, if you were shipping, say, bags of potato chips to stores, would you most likely have to start from out of state and drive in? Anything you can tell me about this era would be helpful.
