heard of troopers having cb didnt believe it,i know now

I usually just use my CB as a TOOL.
It's there for "Foul Weather Driving", and I need to hear what's going on ahead of me, before I get there.

It's on with the volume truned down most of the time.
If I see the needle jumping around when someone is near, I'll turn it up. They might be needing help, or warning me about something. (A Tool)

And it's on if I'm running with a friend, but we'll be on a side channel.

There's so much trash on the CB these days, and being a lady, I don't like to hear it. There is lots of trash aimed at lady drivers. That's sad, but true. Too bad it's that way, wish it would change.

Alot of the time, drivers are listening to Satilite Radio, Audio Books, Music, or nothing at all. These modern day conviences are good entertainment,
and we are lucky to have them, unlike when AM radio and the CB were the only options.

But if I see a 4-wheeler with a radio, and see that they are trying to talk to me, I'll Key-Up and talk. Especially if I see kids in the car. It's so easy to make them happy...and Hey, we can use some good Public Relations.

I agree with ya. Mtn.Momma...I enjoy listening to some of the conversations over the cb but when some of the talk is really bad...I turn it down low.....cb is a useful tool as far as weather or accidents, etc.
But overall I love my cb its my friend on long hauls and lonely roads.....keep the hammer down, and be safe..

I have also, heard of troopers having CB's in their cruisers, but I have to question that, or maybe that they don't have them on all the time either. They never respond, and if they do have them to listen to other truckers so that they can hand out coupons, I have to say "cheeter!"

Oh well, as many nice, ethical, and honest police that there are in this country, with a sense of fair play, there are those who only look to bump their numbers for their shift commander. So the game continues.

Depending where you are at and what time it is has a lot to do with how much chatter you will hear on the CB...

Language does get bad at times but on the other hand I have listened to many decent conversations on the CB... So, this can go both ways nowadays...

Far as its the "NEW AGE DRIVERS" goes.... Please people get over it for once... It is "Society" in general... We have become a nation of spoiled self centered cry babies... Its all about me and nothing else matters..... And always sticking your nose into other peoples business..
Can't say old timers are any better neither becuase they are just as bad anymore as well... They will do the exact same things the younger guys will..... And its not going to get any better but only get worse... Traffic is supposed to increase like 30% in the next 5 years and that will create a lot more stress....

Well one could say that people don't have any respect for the law....
On the other hand you also can say cops don't have any respect for the public anymore...
Its become a profitable business far as traffic enforcement goes and safety comes second...
If safety was really a concern then they would start pulling people over for things that make sense... such as driving with bright lights on down the interstate with on comming traffic... Actually do a little traffic enforcement and pull over erratic driver who weave threw traffic....
How many times have you seen somebody broke down on the side of the road and a cop just drive on by?
They are public servants and most (not all) seem to forget that and let their badge go to their heads...
And yes I do know what I am taking about becuase my brother in law is a 21 year Indiana state trooper and I get the privilege to hang around some of the other jerks... (not all but "most" are jerks)..
Again respect??? well my father always told me to lead by example... Flying down the Interstate (without their lights on), failing to use turn signals and so on as most cops do.. Is this leading by example? or so what I am a cop?

CB in cars?
sure I think its a great ideal... Matter of fact they are putting out cars in a few years that will be able to send messages to each other.. communication is a good thing long as it is decent...

I find that the troopers that monitor the CB are more on the 2 lane roads away from the chatter, or on the rural interstate away from the bigger cities.

I have turned the radio on and told an Indiana trooper about a bad gator on an S curve a few miles back that might cause a wreck. He thanked me and wished me a good trip.

Heard recently in the rain in Missouri, Trooper on the side of the road with lights on, no other vehicle. Trucker hollers... Hey Smokey are you all right or did you pull yourself over. Trooper came back on said everything was okay and laughed.

It's used and mostly abused. I use it myself when I need to but you'll notice it's mostly busy near big cities and truck stops, the time I usually turn it off.

Also if you are using a handheld you may need an external antenna, the range on it inside a vehicle is probably very short range.

I blame it on this new generation of "truck drivers" who drive their trucks as if they're a freakin' car - whizzin in and out of traffic and generally driving like morons. They don't seem to like to talk on cb's, either. Instead, their ears have a cellphone stuck on them - trucking is nothing like it was 20 years ago.
I have "heard" a lot of dead air on the cb - but I'm a talker, so I'll just get on there and start saying something and see if anyone's "in the mood" to talk.
Usually, several other truckers will get on there and start jabbing about whatever.
When I was driving OTR, I always tried to find someone driving the same direction and start talking. An engaging conversation made the miles and hours tick by like nothing, before I knew it, the driving day was over and I could head to the sleeper/hotel room/truckstop - whatever.
Of course, those were the days before satellite radio/tv/whatever else.
In reality, even if I were an OTR driver now, I would STILL rather talk to a live human being on the CB than listen to satellite radio all day long.

It's sad to hear that things have gone bad on the CB. Back in 1977 I broke down driving from Texas to CA and it was truckers that rescued us and got the car running again. A year later my sister wound up marrying one of those drivers.
