| The problem I see is more and more trucks now do the same thing as 4 wheelers. Just ask the lady driving the England truck that met face to face with a bunch of Schneider eggs when she realized she couldn't pass me at the last minute. More and more, truckers are doing this, not just 4 wheelers, and the fact that "professional drivers" would resort to this tactic really pisses me off. I expect it from 4 wheelers, but would expect better from those driving 18 wheelers. I personally don't participate in the "lane blocking". I have learned to not be annoyed by traffic refusing to properly merge, and also realize that is doesn't impede my progress enough to risk getting a "preventable accident" because I decided to become the "traffic police". The worst I do is sometimes refuse to back off when that other lane is actually ending, especially when it is another trucker coming up beside me. |

| merge In MN, the MNDOT says that they want traffic to use both lanes and merge at the end.....suppose to make traffic/merging go more smooth. Don't buy it, I hate late merging. Someday, I will probably end up rear ending somebody because I will not let a late merger move in. Stupid me, some day I'll learn to be more patient. |

| That is exactly what we are doing. We spend a lot of time in our rigs, and witness good driving and bad driving habits by four-wheelers and fellow truckers alike. These knuckleheads need to look at the big picture and get in line like everyone else. They don't have any special priority that distinguishes them from the rest of us. What about the trucker that is running behind for a dock appointment? You think that this driver wants to slow down to a crawl? I did this the other night up in Rockford, Il. I don't like the idea of a car or truck flying by me and others as we patiently wait. It can be dangerous if another driver or biker pulls out there and gets rammed. | What's terrible is that 4-wheelers and other truckers DO feel that they are special for zipping ahead. They think they are good efficient drivers and they know how to cut down on wait time. Speaking directly to those dopes: Guess what, you're not special, other people waiting patiently in line know exactly how to do what you're doing they just aren't as stupid, inconsiderate, and irresponsible." |

| Merge I do this traffic control whenever I am in construction, it serves two purposes, one it allows traffic in front of the two trucks to relax a little as the tailgating stops, two, it stops the racers from running up the right at a higher speed then slamming on their brakes to crowd in. Hopefully by doing this it allows more people to arrive at their destination safely. |

| I ussually only do that,blocking when I am almost to the merge point,just so a 4 wheeler doesn't drive into me at merge point.Ct state trooper gave a driver of a tanker a ticket for 110.00,for impeding the traffic flow by blocking the lanes. I still would like the public and the trucks to follow the signs and what they say,the safest states signs I have read and work the best is,merge now,right or left lane or lanes closed so far ahead,most folks merge then and there isn't a huge problem. The signs that say left or right lane or lanes closed x miles ahead do not explain what is safe,the other folks have a right to go to the merge point and merge at that point everyother vehicle,that is the way it is supposed to be if the signs don't give you a direct merge point. The last ten years,except pa.still has a cop watching the merge point alot. In the old days you had to merge every other vehicle or you got a warning or a ticket.When another vehicle blocks any lanes it actually causes tempers to flare,more safety problems for the drivers that are held up and when we merge,some are stuck up against barriers making a really bad safety problem.I would rather see us all get along and do the right thing,go to that single lane and merge one at a time like a normal decent human being,sometimes that is too hard to do for some folks. Think about it,after all,that is the safest way and most efficient use of the highway for all of us. |
