I-77 does have a few hills, Fancy Gap being the more famous of them. It is my understanding that some jurisdictions will cite a vehicle operator for using the four way flashers while under normal (albeit slower) speeds. I personally have a hard time keeping score of who will ticket us for this, and who won't. Therefore, unless I'm really creeping, say less than 30 mph, I never turn mine on for fear of being cited. I seem to recall hearing VA is one of the states that will write you for this offense.

[rant]When a hard down-pour of rain occurs, don't flip on the four way flashers and slam on brakes. I can't tell what the heck you're doing with all those intermittent flashes of brake lights and four ways blinking out there. If you can't see to operate your vehicle, pull off the highway. Stopping in the hammer lane will only make matters worse.[/rant]

i have a story that fits this thread perfectly. i pulled into the pilot on I-81 X 213 in VA. a few weeks ago. backed into my spot and started getting my clothes together for a shower i heard a driver (aparently) right behind a Cal-Ark truck say on the radio "hey Cal nice 4-ways" LOL
apparently he stopped suddenly and started backing into a spot without putting on his 4-ways almost hitting the driver behind them. he replied with something like "what do i need those for, you should be able to see that i'm going backwards not forwards" well needless to say the radio lit up with other drivers telling him he should have them on! his response to this was "only rookies use their flashers because that was what they were taught in trucking school" one driver said "yea, thats why all these drivers are telling you you were wrong" he came back with "that's because you are all rookies" "70 percent of the drivers out there are" he refused to admit he was WRONG LOL typical super-trucker attitude.

Flashers what are those? You mean the little blinky blinky lights.... what are those for again I forget...

I have run into that, I was on a two lane with another truck ahead of me. He was going slow and there were 2 four wheelers infront of me. He pulls off onto one of those slow vehicle turn outs. The four wheelers go by and I start and there is another truck coming head on. Well this guy just starts to come back onto the road and I see it, no signal. Nothing. I hit my breaks, and he hits his. So next thing I know I am at a dead stand still with a truck coming at me almost head on, and this guy almost stopped. He then figured out which pedal the gas was and took off. I flew back into line behind him, and was pissed. Just as I got behind him the other truck came flying by never slowed down. I called his company for that one.

I think one of the best things I have seen on a trailer so far was on a trailer from Canada above the flashers it said " Turn signals are not a request"

I wonder the same thing! I see almost no one using turn signals anymore. Truckers always used to, but not anymore. I guess they ran out of blinker fluid and don't feel like filling it up. Sigh.

Disclaimer: there is no such thing as blinker fluid, it is a joke. I am not responsible for you trying to put liquid in your blinker and killing yourself or blowing your truck up.
