Thank you all so much for the insight.... I am really struggling to understand. I guess most of what you say makes sense BUT I can't imagine giving up my bed/my shower/chilling on my couch with access to my own kitchen.
Your information and opinions certainly help my perspective. Maybe I'll just have to try it
What leads a spouse to choose not to sleep next to their spouse every night? I LOVE that part of my life. Waking up next to someone and closing my eyes next to someone.... the SAME someone LOL
I think alot of people truly wonder why you do it.

People think money is everything; its kinda funny. Sometimes enjoying what you do is more worthwhile. Im getting into trucking because Ive never wanted to do anything so bad, like I want to drive a truck. Despite all the stuff Ive read here about this world we live in, I still want to give it a try. If its not for me, Ill know it. Until then, I will have a positive outlook.

GREAT POST!

A positive attitude makes a world of difference!

Yes it's GREAT to make MONEY that's for sure....BUT it's also good if you are doing something you really enjoy at the same time.

That can be achieved in any job, as long as one has a good outlook.

That's why men and women do this job. They love it! Couldn't picture themselves doing anything else in life.
this is true for me, from the first road trip in school to my last run with my driver trainer, everyone says the same thing "this is your first time in a truck???" my last trainer said i drive like ive been doing it for hundreds of years

i often forget i get paid to do this. my qualcomm beeps and goes "hey heres your payroll" and im like "woah... i get paid to do this... sweet!"

now, i do have one benifit most here dont. i'm single. no wife, no kids, no nothin. hell i still live at home with my father.

bout the only reaosn i come home is to use the wifi # home to play socom online on my PSP. thats pretty much the only reason i come home ... althou i gotta tell dispatch i want home for the TSO concert in november

i got my CB radio (which i think needs tweaked cuz im haveing a hell of a time hearing anyone more then 500 feet away)
got my sirius sattilite radio (ch15 classic rewind ... w00t!)

and i got a at&t sattilite internet.... what else do i need? i couldnt be happier with the aformentioned amenities

althou sometimes i crave high-speed internet acess and free wifi to play socom online.

now sure i hate idiots on the road that dont know how to drive, suicide drivers that cut you off and park in front of you; but i hate managment and supervisors even more. and since i dont have one standing over my shoulder 8 hours a day telling me what im doing is wrong, no matter what im doing. life is much happier. i listen to the music i want to. i go to bed and wake up when i want to (althou i do have a schedual to keep there is some leeway)

so i absolutly love doing what i do. i dont date women who smoke and at this point im convinced thats non-exsistant on this planet, i figure ill be single for many centuries, so i wont have to worry about the usual wife # home problems (lonliness, stress of paranoia (that mabe im not the only one rockin the bed) reverse stress of paranoia (her thinking im doin the same) having someone call me every 10 seconds to find out whats goin on)

to adress some other points you made. the food out here is pretty damned good (the sit down resturants) usualy, the 'bad truckstops' are few and far between (mostly the route 66 one's are nasty), the bathrooms are clean and presentable 80-90% of the time. the showers are half decent. and i think its pretty fun goin to bed and waking up in ohio one day, maryland the next, then pennsylvania, so on and so forth. its like being on vacation everyday. only im getting paid to be there. well im getting paid to go there anyway.

I met my husband when he was already driving. I rode with him for 2 yrs until we came off the road for a little bit. We really missed being on the road so we are back out. I didn't used to drive so i was the navigator, cleaner, cook, book keeper, etc. We see some absolutely beautiful sites.. every day it is something new we see. Never gets boring. We do get home about 2x a month right now to see the grown kids and grandbabies, yes we miss them but our lives are on the road. Home cooked meals are often. We have a fridge with a freezer and a toaster oven that we use alot. I cook when we are home and freeze the foods so we still can eat healthy instead of eating out all the time.
The others are right.
Trucking gets in your blood. your either made to do this in life or not. It takes special people to be able to handle the stresses of being a trucker.
