In cab valet

What we need is an IN CAB VALET (driver's helper) to get out and deal with the landing gear, glad hands and fifth wheel release.

Oh, and I'll take my coffee black, 2 sugars, thanks!

In the Canadian oilfield they call that a Swamper. He usually rides with crane trucks (pickers) so he can run chain and just do everything the crane operator needs him to do. The driver/crane operator gets to sleep in the sleeper, and the swamper sleeps on the passenger seat!

The same here, I was always told it was illegal. You would need a lot of safety devices to make sure you didn't hit it by accident.

Latanea, that sounds like the last truck I drove for central trans. Like I had said, it was a daycab that had been used as a switcher, so between the seats it had a pedestal with a PTO ON/OFF switch, a handle to run the 5th wheel up/down, and a 5th wheel release button (a big red flat knob, right about where the inside armrest would be!LOL!). Well, on that truck there was NO SAFETY to deactivate it (while driving).

How did I find that out? I was bobtailing, and when I got it up to about 30 mph, I hit the switch and I heard the air release activate! Needless to say, when I was in that truck, I was always careful about where I was trying to rest my right arm!
