I grew up in eastern KY coal country.

I remember the days of a coal bucket NOT being loaded unless the truck and trailer tires were squatting about halfway.

Where in KY are you? I'm here near Pikeville, and work in Ivel, KY for R/S Godwin Truck Body Co.
i'm over toward morehead. i pass r/s godwin once or twice a week. i haul to wells concrete in shelbiana, prestonsburg, saylersville, s. williamson, jackson, several others.

if a person has not travelled coal country, it is hard to describe i guess, without knowing the history of the region and the people that work out a living up there. i like it.

Well cool Poppy....

I actually am based at Ivel, but travel OTR delivering the dump trucks or occasionally in the volvo flatbed.

I have probably seen you a hundred times before. I see the Wells Group daycab end dumps and pneumatics all the time.

If you see a new R/S dump truck on 23, give me a yell. I usually stay on 19 until I get to Pound, VA then it goes off unless I'm running with Tom, then we go to 31 for the trip. BTW I'm known around these parts as "Slim Jim"..
Oh, FYI: I'm not the long haired hippie either... Trust me, you'll see him. He's Randy... He's a WIERDO!!!!!!

I've heard of Crockett, Seen it on a map, but never been there.

So, why the move to Wyoming???

I'm actually thinking of moving this coming spring to Tennessee if I get laid off this winter. Trust me, it's a comin'.

R/S is an excellent job, but winters are rough.. No one buys dumps in the winter it seems.

I've been out here going on 13 yrs in July.

As for the move I'm actually coming home to my Brickman roots. My dad once he got out of the Air Force way back when moved around a bit and finally settled in KY. Myself and two brothers also live in WY. The majority of my relatives on my dads side live in WY, CO or SD.

KY is purdy with all the trees, flowers etc but its too depressing for several reasons. Winter time the sun doesn't shine that much, summers are so humid I cannot stand them any longer and there are too many welfare cases that just do not seem to give a darn about their lot in life. Their places look like hell and so do they, you know the kind I'm talking about. Yeah we got losers around here too but there aren't as many, the humidity is very low, and we get sunshine over 300 days a yr. The wind gets old after a while but at least the air is clean.
For what ever reason WY is home to me. I tried moving to Montana earlier this yr. It was nice there but wasn't home. I sold my truck, moved and took a local job. After 4 months of the house being on the market not selling with very LITTLE interest in it, it was easier to move back than it was to leave.

Trust me, you aren't missing anything. The losers are gettin' thick these days. That's one thing that kills me.. My wife's cousin is able bodied, and somewhat intelligent, but he has never worked a day in his life. Now, he is getting HUD rental assistance, food stamps, medical card, and welfare check. Not to mention his supposed disability that he gets a check for.
There are absolutely no jobs here in eastern KY and I was laid off for 4 months from coal hauling before I got the job at R/S. However, they have been talking layoffs pretty hard lately. Of course, that means I'll be first since I'm the low man on the totem pole. The sad thing is, My boss/dispatcher is my long time best friend Barry, but R/S is so big into seniority, I don't even stand a chance.

OK.......... Enough of my rant for a while..

You mentioned "disability" LMAO I remember that........... EVERY BODY was getting a supposed check for disability. Funny thing is no body knew what the disability was for.
