Are you kidding? I make $1,200 a WEEK, 8-2PM Monday thru Friday...I originally considered trucking for a change, having heard $16-24k a month was possible. How the hell do you get ahead making that kindof money?

Hawgklr, If your makin that kind of money with those hours you need your head examined if your thinkin of leavin that to drive a dam truck!!! Sorry, this is just my opinion.

That sucks...had my heart set on it. ( My best friends Dad was an independent for years (in Ohio) driving for P.I.E. and he made bucketfuls of money!
You know, I can't believe the "hoops" you guys gotta jump through to be a trucker...and then make $2k a month!? Keerist, my daughter makes $300 a week working in a grocery store!
I'm sorry...when I win the lottery, I'll buy a trucking company and pay everyone that works for me $1,500wk (M-F)!

All the ads for people to become OTR truckers are to replace the ones who are leaving OTR, and settling down to become local hourly-paid drivers. There's a tremendous turnover of drivers throughout the trucking industry, which they prefer to use the term “driver shortage” instead. The $35K+ they had qouted you is possible, if you falsify logbooks and put in 100+ hours per week. If you comply with HOS regulations, you'll constantly find yourself running out of hours and telling dispatch “I'm out of hours.” You then have to sit for 36 consecutive hours to reset your logbooks. You don't get paid for this idle time. Had you falsified logbooks, you'd be running daily and earning $$ instead. This is why they pay by the mile, to encourage (without verbally telling you) you to falsify logbooks. This system of compensation is why the industry can't hang on to their drivers. So long as there are plenty of applicants coming into the industry to replace those who are leaving (to become hourly-paid local drivers), then there really is no need to change the way they do business (exploitation of newbies).

That is true "Passing", but really with the cost of livin what it is today 35k really is'nt that much money, even for a rookie driver. I would hate to be starting out in this business today. I mean it's still a descent way to make a livin, but if I could make the same money doing something else I would do it.
