Shortie FedEx sleeper truck The other day I saw a white FedEx truck, normal sleeper type cab but the truck bed was very short-maybe 24 feet or so. I'm not sure if it was a straight truck or tractor-trailer, I only caught a glimpse of it when it passed by on the highway I had just left. Anyone know what these are for? Some sort of high priority freight? You'd think FedEx would fly anything that has to get there fast. If it matters, I was in central CT, so not all that far from NYC.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that's what I saw. Not sure if it had a reefer unit or not, but I only saw it for a few seconds. Thanks. What sort of job is this kind of truck used for?

Thats for expedited freight,or "just in time" freight. Its mainly for customers who dont need alot of space for a pakage they want to ship, and they need it shipped like yesterday....They can get in and out of alot more places as well...That gives them a bigger customer base, but they are limited to what they can ship cause the small size of the truck the size of the truck so.....

| A lot of times expedited freight will only consist of one skid/tote/carton of parts that a production plant needs to keep from shutting down a line or a machine. The warehouse that my buddy works at stores plastic pellets in gaylords and bulk sacks. They will sometimes get a call from a customer saying they're about to run out of a certain material and need an extra shipment. Usually this is the result of somebody either not ordering enough material to begin with, or there wasn't enough material to fill an original order. I'm sure there are hundreds of other reasons for using an expediter, but this is the one I'm most familiar with.

A company I used to work for used Fedex custom a time or two, it cost like 4.50 per mile, and I understand once they pick up your freight, they can not stop untill it is delivered, that is why you only see teams and super sleepers on the trucks.

Those guys are always in a hurry, but i would imagine they would surley be able to stop lol..The drivers are humans so they have to eat, sleep, shower, and go to the bathroom like anyone else...and they have to run logs too....So they gotta stop somtime...
