Hello Truckers! I have worked at a trucking company for 4 years now. Let me just say that I had NO idea what it meant to be a truck driver. I had a really bad perception of drivers, and was honestly scared of them when I was in a gas station. I remember sitting in orientation (office folks go thru orientation at my company just like the drivers do), and thinking "what the hell is a log?" I honestly, in my naive state of mind, thought all you had to do was drive. I could not have been more wrong.

In the years that I've been at my job, I have met some of the most wonderful people (and I don't mean office people!!) ha! I thoroughly enjoy getting to talk to drivers on the phone and in my office every single day. In fact, all of my immediate coworkers are former drivers, and I love them like brothers.

Needless to say, I also have a WHOLE new perspective on trucks. I have changed my driving habits considerably since working for a trucking company, and no longer tailgate or cut off trucks. I try to let them in whenever I can if traffic is tight, and will even flash my lights to let them know there is room to merge.

So to make this long post even longer, I wanted to say THANK YOU to some of the most under-appreciated people in this country. The hours you guys and gals put in is unreal, and the ##### you have to put up with is even more amazing. Kudos to all of you and especially to those of you who do care about the motoring public and your own safety.

I have said for several years now that everyone needs to work in retail, be a waiter/waitress and drive a truck, and the world would be a MUCH nicer place. Gives you a whole new respect for those professions when you have worked them.

so THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all that you do for your respective companies and our country. Even if your own company won't thank you, I will!

broncrider, wish I knew the answer to that question. Our drivers sure would be a lot happier, as would our owner. haha! well, I sure would not draw a paycheck if we had no drivers, so I know who to appreciate. hopefully this economy will perk up some this summer or soon at least b/c a lot of companies will not make it if it lasts much longer.

Cool deal. I get tired of trying to explain that its more than just driving so I just started letting them stay ingnorantly bliss in their thinking.

I also work # a trucking company and did not know anything about truck drivers (I was 18 when I started in trucking) and how they can't see us etc. Taking accident reports in the past really made me learn allot from truck drivers.

Now truck drivers think we must drive to understand. I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH THAT COMMENT! All it takes is some knowledge and a piece of heart to understand what they deal with. Now understand some drivers just don't care and really should not be out there so don't let them drivers get to you, like they have me

Aww cmon logs we all love you here! We may not always agree but thats the nature of humanity.
Unfortunately I do disagree with you on the point that to truly understand a truckers perspective you must have been a driver for a while. There is a whole new perspective to sitting 8 to 10 foot above the highway looking out over the tops of the 4 wheelers to constantly evaluate and predict what the traffic immediately in front of you will do.
I actually would have more respect for our current politicians and lawmakers if they took the time to drive a truck for a year and THEN make laws and rules to govern this industry.
Your a valuable source of information and I do appreciate you and applaud you for trying to inform and educate other drivers (not just the ones that work for your company) heck even me once in a while!

Knowledge is Power

i would actually love to be able to go out for a week or so to actually see what they have to deal with day in and day out...i work at a flatbed company and it really boggles my mind how they remember all the rules to securing! I feel I only understand a small portion of what it means to drive a truck...

i'm accused a lot of "caring too much" for the drivers as I try to help anyone who asks me to...but that's just my nature. There are about 5 people in my company who go out of their way day in and day out to help drivers. I wish there were more.

I also work in the safety/orientation area, so I hear about the accidents and injuries a lot. Dangerous stuff--especially the flatbedding part of it.

I would be alot happier if our politicians would have to take a test to be able to run for office and have had to run there own bussiness and worked in a service job of some kind! If they understood what it took to live. paycheck to paycheck or wondered if they would have a job next week becuse gas prices are so high the company may have to downsize or combine runs they would vote alot differantly.
ok enough ranting....................
I just wanna say Thank you! guys/gals that keep this country moving! you guys do a mostly thankless job and aren't paid what your worth. Belive me I always thought you all made alot more than you do.
But thank God I found this site and all you guys/gals told me to stay where the hell I was.....LMAO

for the most part we're a pretty harmless bunch, our bark is usualy worse than our bite. don't believe me? listen to the c.b. around any truck stop. Havn't seen a good fight all year. lots of talk not much else. I've met alot of really nice people in the office of the places I've worked. This is in spite of some of the ^%%$## they have to deal with every day. Your job isn't the best either!! You couldn't pay me enough to do it,as much as I like people. so kudos to you!!

WOW!!!!! You are about to be nominated for "Trucking Industry office person of the year" !!!!!!
