Yuck

Very true, a semi, hitting a moose; I don't know whats all left. But a 4-wheeler on the other hand, I swear the moose does more damage; hopefully your driving a full size SUV or truck, you might live.

I have never hit a moose thank god. But I have gutted and packed a few of them out of the woods in pieces on hunting trips. Sweet geezuz they are HUGE. Plus, if you encounter one on the road, they just stand there, unlike a deer that will usualy be running. 1800 pounds of dead weight that aint comming apart like your typical plactic Chevy.

I forget the figguers on Alakan moose getting smucked in deep snow winters, but it's alot, isnt it?

Tiz a couple hundred. I am glad I have never hit one. I haven't hunted them either, to much work lol, plus I don't think they taste good, I do love caribou tho.

Hit a deer in Wisconsin.Bent bumper and mangled headlight assembly.I thought blowing the air horn would scare him off the road.He charged my truck instead.(Instead) ryhmes with dead.At least that's what the driver behind me said.My brother lives in New Hampshire. He hit one once.State law says you can take it home but it took out his radiator and he had no way to get it home.

I was driving a frameless dump on 72 just east of Springfield, IL when a deer ran into the side of my truck. There was no damage to the truck unless you want to talk about blood and guts all over the tires and brake chambers that would make a horror film fan thrilled. The owner of the company hit three deer within days of each other and in fact the company policy is never swerve. We had a driver who swerved, ended up in a ditch wrecking the truck and trailer, plus dumping 25 tons of fly ash everywhere. A new bumber would have been a lot cheaper.

After you have hit the deer, I'm sure you just keep going (I would). What kind of damage do they do to big trucks? (probably just a speed bump right?)

Living in Colorado, alot of semis have bull bars, just wondering how common those are across the country.

--This is my first post, so I should tell a little about myself. I am at Colorado State studying forestry with an interest in groundskeeping/forestry/trucking. I drive from Chicago -> Denver quite a bit so I see alot of truckers and have respect for them.
Any animal is not worth dying for. Whatever you do, do not swerve to try and miss the animal. I have hit my brakes on good clean roads and narrowly missed a few, and I have also hit a few. Damage has ranged from a dented bumper to the deers feet taking out my air lines as I ran it over. The only animal I have ever considered swerving for in a semi was a huge bear in PA. I was surprised, the old coot moved faster than I thought it would and I missed it by a hair and I did resist the urge to swerve but I think it would have seriously damaged the truck if I had hit it.

My ol' man was a butcher when I was growing up. If we witnessed a fresh kill, we'd jump out, field dress that sucker, and rush it back to the locker and toss it in the cooler. We always had fresh deer meat! YUM YUM!
