It really depends on the company. Most have a day for physicals and drug testing and paperwork processing. From there they can really vary. They will all cover company policy and safety issues but how they do it can be different. Even the length varies. The best thing would be to ask the company you are thinking of hiring on with what their orientation includes.

hurry up and wait..

there will be films to watch, forms to fill out, drug test to take, more films to watch. driving test. all this is done to keep you busy while the staff is verifying your previous employment, driving record and such.
ask about meals(how much money you will need), lodging etc.

OK I'll give it a shot

Lotsa paperwork, lessons on how the company wants you to do things, lessons on safety,DOT physical, road test, more classes
The JB way was at the very end you finally found out you were hired and then you were givin your driver#,alpha code and any info you needed to start on the account you were going to be on.
I'm a bit bitter on this because they had me take a trip of over 12hrs by bus that I could have driven by car because it was under 2hrs away,my wonderful recruiter told me I'd be getting a truck there. Then ontop of that the same grueling ride home til it was time to report for work.
Good Luck
Dave

check out some of the Maverick threads....some are in the "inside scoop" section I think. There are some very detailed ones. and another in "questions from new drivers" called Have to Start Somewhere....

I'm more in favor of those companies that do the physical and drug test *first*, and base their decision to do that on your MVR/DAC/application, etc. Get some of this stuff out of the way before you ever leave home.

Gives you more time for those wonderful videos, and, of course, backing practice.
