| Shaky, I have a soft spot for Oregon scales also. In 1958, we were coming back from Seattle on a Thursday evening and down at the line my co driver pulled up short of the scale house at a cafe. We went in, set, ordered, and proceeded to log up from Columbus, MS to San Francisco, to Seattle and back there. Flipped a coin to determine who started driving last Sunday nite. Little place had front door, counter all length on left side, 4 booths on right side. A few people at counter with coffee, someone in the first booth eating a meal. we in the second, no one in the third. Last one had a single nice looking man in it, about 30-35 with suit and tie. Overcoat hanging on the stalk at the end of 3rd/4th booth. We talked and logged, eat and just relaxed. The " nice" man finished, got up, got his overcoat, glanced our way as he passed and left. We finish up, pay up, go out and fire up. Now this scale house as I remember was only a like 8 x 10 white little clapboard job, window on Seattle side so they could see u coming in, a wooden front door with the 4 panes in the top. Kinda like a back road scale now they only man occasionly, but this was on US99. We wheeled on down, bounced his platform, stopped, set. The "nice" man with the overcoat stepped up into the doorway from inside gloom and said in GOOD SOUTHERN... "You boys go ahead, I know you are logged up right." We did'nt even think to thank him... Just left. As you might say: That's willy, willy twue....

| I think you mean double clutch, right? Double clutching is when you press the clutch in, move the gearshift to neutral, then press the clutch in again to shift into gear. You press the clutch twice during one gear change, so it's double clutching. |

| And if you are running a triplex or 5x4 or some animal like that with worn mount bushings or linkage, it can turn into double double clutching as you miss the one you were after and then just start hunting any hole that you can get it in to keep from the end result being you blocking traffic while you start over.lol

| Find a gear... Any gear... Now Quote:
Reads as time to decide whether to sh.. or go blind. A real tension builder. First experience I had with was an old "22" White sleeper, 5 speed main and a 3 way Brown-Lipe. The brownie lever was set up thru the floorboard and stuck up between you legs. Handy.. Drop your wrist over the low section of the wheel, flip fingers down and wiggle it around. No need to turn wheel loose (or elbow thru), lean far right to manipulate a Mack. First thing we did with a Mack was get the cutting torch and a piece of stove pipe. Sit up in position, feel where the levers need to be to reach easily. Stick the stove pipe over the lever to keep from burning the truck up inside, heat the levers upper area and bend her in to you. Main first. Shift the aux around to see how close it could come in 1st and in 5th. Bend it. With careful measuring you could get them up close and personal.
