Yes, as long as we have dumb and ignorant drivers it will happen more and more. As long as we have dumb, ignorant or lazy drivers that fail to pre-plan a trip to finish a run in a safe and reasonable time then it will happen more and more. These drivers have no B**** or they would tell their dispatch or shipper when they will be at the receiver. If you are dumb enough to fall for this BS and get speeding tickets and log book violations then please do it more often so that you will lose your CDL and off the road so that it will be a safer place to drive. I drive my truck, who drives yours?

I told y'all it was a good point. ![]() More on base stations later ------- [quote=ChromeDome;494515]I usually have a quick comeback for people that are busting out the racial remarks on the CB, and I am white. I don't see any reason racists should exist in this society, it is childish and not constructive for the nation.[quote]Many times their remarks are made to bait someone into "coming back" with a reply. They're known as INSTIGATORS. They do what they do to create trouble. If you give them what they're lookin' for, why would they go away? If y'all ain't part of the solution, y'all just might be part of the problem. Ever try ignoring them? How 'bout this ----- After they spew garbage, key up your CB, and apologize to the listeners who might have heard it? Man-0-Man folks -- I don't know who that was talkin' trash out there -- but I sure hope y'all don't think ALL Big truck truck drivers agree or condone that carp. I'm sorry y'all had to hear that. It burned MY ears, too. Quote:

![]() I used to run with the Independent Contractors at the truckin' company, and many of them ran 2 and 10 meter as well as 11 meter. One night while crossing Nevada, one of the drivers keyed up the 11 meter mic (CB) and let me listen in to his conversation with the NASA Astronauts while they were in space. How cool is that?! Afterward, he showed me the 5x7 plaque of the crew -- autographed by all of them -- for making contact. And when we were converging on one location from different directions, that 2 meter helped us all meet up in one place to plan our attack. (This was in the daze before cell-phones were what they are now. We thought pagers were hot.) I hear stupid is as stupid does. SOMEtimes, it might be smart to listen to stupid. Quote:
Everyone IS entitled to their own opinions. I've tried to do that --- but I always seem to hit the head on the nail instead. ![]() Do you really think this is smart? Quote:

If y'all ain't drivin' the fastest Big truck, live with it, it will be happening more. I think, if I can't complete a pass with ease, just back 'er down and bide your time. Wait for the right opportunity, like rolling hills. Think ahead. Plan your pass. SAFETY FIRST! Two Big trucks limbering along side-by-side when there are better options, IS, IMO, not the safest option. I believe a law exists as to how much time a Big truck is allowded to take during a pass. I'm thinkin' 90 seconds, but, I have this memory thing. I remember thinkin' if I can't git 'er done quicker than that, I'm not even gonna try. IMO, falling in line and following at a reduced speed for awhile is safer than drivin' side-by-side. And the right thang to do. ![]() Due to the length of this post, I'll start a new one to explain how I use a CB, ...... later. I'm feelin' lazy today. ![]() |

| It doesn't. It plays a role in the minds of morons... <snip> Quote:
Seems he saw me at about the time my nose was even with his drivers - and the SOB sped up - to just about my best speed. I pushed it for a few more seconds, hoping he'd wake up and back down - but when he didn't, I picked up my right foot and dropped back in behind him again. Back at his original speed. A few more minutes, we had a longish hill and no crunchies to deal with. He was running heavier than I was, I think - at any rate.. I goosed it and went by. In all honesty, I don't think it was deliberate. Drivers just seem to naturally want to lead the pack, or at least not be left behind. Without even thinking they'll adjust speed to keep with - or ahead - of their herd. Of course - it's the 'not thinking' part that's more dangerouser than most anything else.

| A lot of people think that nobody will know who they are, and they will act a fool on the cb. It's a shame they act that way. Making racial remarks, saying bad things about everything. Shame on them. It's tough driving a truck that has a fixed top speed. Nobody likes having to slow down. I always back down until there are no other vehicles coming in the passing lane, before I overtake a truck going 3 mph slower than myself. And, I get over ASAP! Not to mention a driver who is driving along until I try to pass, only to have them speed up. Playing their little games. When I get next to somebody like that, I'll take the next exit just to get away from them. I'll wait a few minutes to give them time to get on up the road aways, before getting back on. |

Why the personal attack? I never said I condoned it. I just said you will see more of it. The industry and the HOS demand this to be done. We will just have to live with it. Sorry if you are offended. Most of these drivers are decent and trying to make a living as you are. You are no better than they are. Give them a brake. Remember, you are supposed to be a professional driver and have to deal with it like the rest. My truck is not governed, so I have to adjust my driving to deal with those that are. I also have to adjust my mental attitude as well. Please note, I have made no personal attacks to you. Last edited by Roadmedic; 08.23.2008 at 04.07 PM. |
