One very nice thing about a big pony C15 is that most of the time you got what you need, to do what you need to do.

I also realize that 99% of company trucks are not that lucky. I've drove my share of trucks that didn't really have enough to do what needed to be done.

Besides having a gutless engine, I top out at 68. I've been out in the left lane passing for over a mile to get around someone.

Well, let me clarify that. I'll pass slow-moving farm machinery or someone who is going extremely slow. Other than that, even if they're doing 50 in a 55, I figure I won't be behind them more than 10 or 15 miles anyway—the time I'd save by passing them is simply not worth the risk of being hung out to dry with an oncoming vehicle.

I tend to agree with bar-code on this. If the car is doing the speed limit or close to it I generally will not pass.

The ones that get under my skin are the older drivers that don't realize they are driving slowly until you are passing them. Then they see they aren't doing the speed limit and hit the gas, and the race is on.

The drivers I hate are the ones that putz down a two lane road at 55 when the speed limit is 65. I manage on a long open area to get around them, but when you come to a town where the speed limit is 40 and I slow down they continue right thru town at 55. And I am behind their slow butts once again. Unlike them I am a working man and HAVE to go.

They on the other hand have no where to go and all day to get there.

LOL... I call that the "magnetic gas pedal". There are strong magnetic lines of force that are generated when a large chunk of metal, like a big truck, passes a smaller chunk of metal. That magnetic attraction forces the gas pedal in the smaller vehicle down at a rate consistant with the speed of the big truck. This is known as "Barcode's Magnetic Law".

I love people that do that. I've been known to bust the speed limit, but I do keep it proportionate to the speed limit, which is what the people you mentioned are not doing.

I was East bound on I 10 between Houston and Beamont recently. I had my cruise set at 62. Another big truck starts to pass, I guess it wasn't much faster than I was going because it was taking a while to get around. Not miles and miles, just longer than normal.

I guess this really made one car angry. Just as the other truck clears my front bumper, the car squeezes through, almost hitting my front end and the back end of the other truck.

The car then speeds up and gets in front of the other truck, still in the left lane and slams on his brakes. I'm slowing down to give the other truck room to manuever, he gets back in my lane, so does the car which is breaking harder and harder coming to a stop on the Interstate.

I'm telling the other driver to get the license plate over the CB. He or she was screeching back about what the car was doing, I couldn't tell if it was a man or a woman driver.

So there are two big truck stopped on the Interstate. I have a light load of airconditioners so I pull out into the left lane to pass the truck so I can get the license plate of the car.

There wasn't anyone in front of him/her. The car had already driven on and was hundreds of yard away.

I guess the driver of the other truck was so shaken up he/her couldn't find a gear.

Just what I needed, a two truck and about four 4-wheeler pile up on I 10.

I have been driving for about 1.5 years now. My truck is governed at 65 and I have the cruise set at 62. I was just about the slowest truck on the road. Almost everyone would pass me. For several months now I have been passing more and more trucks. I guess more companies are slowing their trucks down or drivers are. The most recent trend are 4-wheelers slowing down. I guess these fuel prices are making just about everyone slow down.

We are professional drivers and have to compensate for the changing times. It does make things more difficult, but isn't this the reason we are making the big bucks$$$$$$?
