Truck passing a car on a two-lane highway

A couple drivers have commented about this on other parts of the board. When I'm on a two-lane highway and I want to pass a slow car, I have to get up behind the car so that when I pass I'm not in the other lane too long. I assume most people know that I can't accelerate like a car and a lot of cars will help me out by moving over a little and slowing while I'm passing. I just wonder if everyone knows this about trucks or do you think we're trying to run you off the road?

Most cars don't know or give a flip. I got over for a truck that was on the shoulder, barely off the road. When I cleared I looked and signaled to come back over. As I was about half way back over a car tried to shoot over to pass me on the right. No turn signal nothing. He shot back in the left lane flipped me off and brake checked me when he passed me by locking them up about 10 feet in front of me at 65 mph. I was grossing just under 80.000 would have killed him and been paperwork for me...

I'd ask you about where that happened, but it really doesn't matter. There are rude and inconsiderate drivers everywhere I have been whether I'm driving a car or an eighteen wheeler. In answer to Ken Worth, if you know the road really well, and can plan on passing, you start accelerating from well behind at one of these places, assuming you can see far enough to do it. If you don't know the road, and can't see far enough ahead, wait until you can pass safely before passing, not everyone will act unaware, and not help out, but you can't count on it.

I pull trailers that are just plain heavy, and don't respond well to speeding up, that is why I pass from well back in order to not spend too much time in the other lane.

Here's a different, and probably unpopular approach, but... I don't pass on a two-lane... ever.

Well, let me clarify that. I'll pass slow-moving farm machinery or someone who is going extremely slow. Other than that, even if they're doing 50 in a 55, I figure I won't be behind them more than 10 or 15 miles anyway—the time I'd save by passing them is simply not worth the risk of being hung out to dry with an oncoming vehicle.

Probably should've just turned him into jelly for being so stupid. Locking up 10 feet from a big rig is just asking for it.

Some people are just looking for a place to die, even if they don't know it.

When I pass on a two lane road, I put my high beams on when I cross the center line and leave them on until I'm back in my own lane. Any time I cross the center line I put them on. With the C-13 430 horse Caterpillar it takes awhile to spool up, I have to be careful that I have enough dots to make it before I start.

They governed my speed lower because of the fuel prices and now I have to learn how to drive again.
