| I think if I was just starting knowing what I know now I would go with a company like Schneider or maybe Crete, This forum is a good place to get the low down on every thing and all the companys. You can get training with some company's witch is said to be free, well that's true if you stay with the company that pays the training for usually at least 2 years some more. I was a trainer for a company called Xcel transportation we delivered office furniture in NY city mainly. Now for money this is a self motivated job there a plenty of ways to through the anchor out financially, I'm from So Cal I would love to go there every week but it just doesn't pay from where I live. it's 2 and one half days to get there traffic in LA sucks ad 2 to 4 hours you get no money for sitting in it. Finding a load out can be difficult as like Florida, California is a lot of food; Produce, can good, lots of waiting for loads I have left several times on Sunday after noon delivered on Wednesday and not been able to leave on my next trip out of LA til Friday. So the math for you (New Hire Rate) would be Say 30 cents per mile Chi to LA 2017 miles = 700$ with the extras included loading pay, waiting (rare that you ever get, not that you wait) etc.. that will put you at the low end of your 30 to 50 per year. If you want to make the top end you generally have to take the crappiest destination every once in a while you get something good. Where I live its NY city it pays 756 miles each way i can make 2 turns = 3024 miles. the mileage pay alone is for new hire 900$. Generally the extras to a crappy location are better (a bribe cause nobody wants to go there) I would say add 200$ in extras minimum. that gets you to your high end of the 30 to 50. This may seem obvious but Driving pays the most, I have trained about one hundred people and somehow people lose track of this. Next to waiting, unloading trucks for a company that pays by the mile has been the least money I have ever made while working. If you can average 50 mph while driving at 30 cpm thats 15$ per hour. I know of no company that pays by the mile that pays any where near that for unloading, many say they do but after you give up the first hour, wait in line,sweeping the trailer, find a place for your trash and many other unpaid chores, it genrally cuts there loading and unloading pay in half or better. So to wrap it if you want to maximise your income: up you can leagally drive 650 miles per day it dosn't happen but you want to get as close to that as possiable, If you get where your dispatcher knows you do him a favor from time to time ( take a carppy load, not work for free) if your dispatcher dosn't know you or you get a different one all the time don't bother take the best load for you. travel at night as often as possiable (traffic Less go faster). do as little unloading loading as you can you get tired it dosn't pay. Do that youll make the 50 plus good luck! |

| I run 2100 miles per average, make $1400 before taxes and insurance. That is car hauling, I work 5 set days and have 2 off....home some nights during my work week. K |

| that 200 mile week, I left the house on monday and arrived at terminal on wednesday for maintenence. didnt get a load til thurs a.m which delivered on monday. (missed payroll on friday) the 300 mile week was short because I was on the way home. I really only run 1700-2300 miles a week...so, they're all bad! |
