a question for company truckers

i am very interested in becoming a trucker,in fact im enrolled at a local college right now.after reading post on this site about different companies to work for ,every one i read is all negative.are there any comapnies out there that fit the bill and pass the test to be a good company to work for.mind you i read a lot of complaints about companies that seen down right silly to me.such as they are a lousy company because they didnt pay me my 28.00 dollars back.it took me 6 months to get 150.00 dollars.and etc....most of the complaints are just whinning or venting.more whinning than venting.i guess if the company is so lousy why do people keep working for them.mind you some companies must be doing something right because truckers have taken over the freeways and many many of them occupy the road.i just wish i could get an honest opinion on a company as far as work ethics and general info.i also read where some companies treat you like a number.when actually you are a number.truckers treat other truckers as numbers so what's the point.if a company employs over 500 employees you are a number or do you think you are to be on first name basis.this is a dog eat dog world out here put your feelings in your pocket and move that freight.so are there any really good companies to be employed by ? i know several but they dont hire recent graduates.

There are many good companies out here. But, there are a lot of bad companies also. Use this forum like a score board at a ball game. Then select one.

As far as the whining about $28. I walked off a good paying factory job over a quarter. Was it about the quarter? No! It's about honesty and integrity. One quarter times 1500 employees times 52 weeks times 25 years. He only kept 3 of mine. The other guys just watched with their jaws hanging open, while I gave a super a piece of my mind, then went home.

If a man will keep your quarter, he will keep other peoples quarter as well. And if you silently accept it, your no better than the man who took it.

In this world you have only 2 things that matter to me. Your honor and your integrity, which go to the very heart of a mans character. Without either of those, you are nothing more that a leech on the ### of life.

My company has over 800 employees. Most of my immediate supers know me by my first name, even recognize my voice when I call. I still give that truck number though...force of habit. There are to many Johns, Bills, and Marks, to leave anything to chance.

But that's not what these drivers are whining about when they say they are treated like a number.

To drive this point home...here's a test. Call the Social Security Admin in the morning, and ask to speak with someone who can tell you what your current benefits would be if you became disabled...tomorrow. Then get back with us, about how quickly you got the information, how quickly you actually spoke to a live person, and how respectfully you were treated by the person on the other end when they found out what your question was. My money would be on the fact you were on hold for 2 hours, and you speak with no less than 3 people, before one of them got rude with you and started playing the phone relay game.

After you've done this 3 times a week for a year...then you are allowed to have an opinion about whining drivers. Until then, you're just another number that hasn't been added to a long list of whining drivers.

danc694u hit the nail on the head. Integrity. If my boss got in a bind and needed fifty bucks I would give it to him. If my boss stole fifty bucks from me in order to save the life of a small child I would punch him in the kisser, get my money back and then quit. I got nothing against small children, I have something against thieves.

People starting a relationship, whether working or personal must keep things black and white. I do not steal, you are not allowed to steal from me. I do a good, safe job, you are not allowed to treat me like a piece of equipment. Treat me like a human being and all the best human qualities will come out in me: loyalty, discretion, honesty, and pride. Treat me like a piece of equipment and I will be as temperamental as a tri-cycle with a bent rim. The old saw about "what goes around comes around" is true. Why have a companies best interest at heart if that company treats you heartlessly?

When you find a company you like and respect, like I have, and have worked with them for years, you can get into grey areas, unwritten agreements and light assumptions. Until then act professionally and demand to be treated professionally, not like a part of their bought and paid for equipment.

Durrty, until such time as you have worked for one of the companies listed here as being bad, getting ripped off by your check being short and can not get your money back or sit for hours at a shipper or receiver and not get any pay for that then have a dispatcher tell you how to cheat on your log book to get going when your out of hours, along with all the other crap we have endured out on the road then you can come back and call us whiners or babies, till the time you run all 50 states and deal with a real crappy company that screws you over royal dont be calling us a whiner or baby.

i take all of your comments to heart.but you are not going to make me believe that you never cheated your logs or cheated in life period.but mind you it's a dog eat dog world.if you owned a company with 800 plus employees or let's say 500.you are not going to know each and every individuals names or plight.being a number is just that a number most of you probaly dont converse with a only a select few.i worked ina plce where we had 3000 employees.the arrogance and the blatant disrespect for others be it race or be it u just dont life a person runs rampant.i would say most individuals have only about 30 % of intergrity in there souls and the rest is chance.by chance i mean until something that test your integrity appears.dance i may be worng but i am not goning to believe that you left a good paying job because you were being beat out of a quarter, but i bet it may have played a part among other major things.some of the things i hear people whinning about on here is just plain whinning, but you never get the whole story you just their sides.

hey duurty, when you get into trucking you will realize that the only exercise truckers get is through their mouths. not everyone realizes how the sound also, due to many hours of solitary confinement. none of this is bad, but sometimes when you here a lot of complaining just realize it is stress and venting/exercising through the mouth.

companies

You may want to look at company trucks that haul their own product.
I drive for a major grocery chain. I'm home every night, drive great equipment, and off on fridays and saturdays. I never have to service the truck. Great benefits package and pay. I was just trying to figure how to correct my withholding because of such a great year. Not bragging, but I'm looking at over 80k this year. Not bad for a daily driving job. God bless America!

The name of the company is Franklin Mfg in Houston, MS.

Call em up and ask them why the OWNER discontinued his "open door" policy after 20 years of having one. I'm pretty damn sure he remembers me...by face if not by name.

That's not a brag. That's just a fact. I'll be your best employee/friend, right up until the moment you short my check or steal from me.

I don't tolerate thieves...period.

Using your own argument/philosophy. Why would anyone have an issue with a Bank teller taking one penny from every account, and putting it in their own?

It's only a penny..... and not worth the effort of doing anything about it. It didn't hurt anyone...not really.

Cheating on a log book? I'm not a religious man..but I have read the Bible. And I didn't see that commandment.
