You're going to here every amount under the sun. But you should be able to get 8-9 hours a day/night.

Most people park about 5 or 6 in the afternoon. Then stay up harrassing the hell out of other people for about 5-6 hours.

I get as much sleep as I want or need....more sometimes.

You'll get enough sleep unless OOIDA gets the split sleeper rule back to where 2 hours in the sleeper will stop the 14 hour clock . Then every time you get delayed a few hours your dispatcher will tell you to log sleeper and your next break will be that much shorter . I wouldn't lose any sleep worrying about OOIDA winning anything though .

All I want. You have to train dispatchers sometimes though. Just explain you are human too, eat, get sleepy need afternoon nap. Some dum-bass drivers get angry scream at them on phone. Just calmly state you got sleepy after lunch, and that as a result their truck is still right up. Same at night. shipper wastes your whole day loading you, you were stuck there with nothing to drink or eat. Hungry, couldn't sleep, gotta sleep tonight. Sorry Mr dicscratcher, er dispatcher, your truck is and will be parked right side up right here all night. Stated calmly and simply, they really can't argue much. Soon they quit sending you to screw-off shippers and recievers cause they know you won't make up for someonelses screwing off.

We have gotten into quite a few scraps with dispatch when we are tired, but I know how to pull the wire out of the q/c and shut off buzzer when they want to be retarded. Once I asked them if they realized I didn't make a dime sitting around sleeping so why would I do it if I wasn't ACTUALLY tired?

I get the sleep I need, really I think with or without the HOS rules most drivers who like not killing people would still stop and get the sleep they need when tired. Sometimes thats just a few hours, sometimes its more then ten hours. Dispatch can ##### all they want but in the end your the one with the CDL. If they fire you because you slept when you were tired and they got pissed you can still get another job, if they fire you because you fell asleep and crushed Susan and her kids in their minivan you will never work again. Easy choice for me.

Last two sentences? Excellent. You can't give a spit what some sidewalk sissy dispatcher thinks or says. Also, whether you believe it, or like it, or not, some day you will stand at the seat of judgement. You are the big- rigger, act like it.

I get all the sleep I need. It varies depending on a lot of different factors. Like most, I refuse to drive when I am tired. I have to look at myself in the mirror and I have a family to support - could not do either if I kill someone because I drove instead of slept.
