A couple days ago, I was coming south down 85 and got forced to go downtown in the middle of the day. The line of traffic to get off on 285 was at least 2 miles long and before I could slow enough to get in line, they had come to a stop. I had to go right on by.

There were cops all over the place on 85 and 20... not one even gave me a second look. I thought for sure I was finally gonna get a chance to try out my 'going to the prison' excuse.

I was just reading on the GA Navigator page that they are doing all kinds of work on I-75 statewide now days. I knew about some in south GA but after a close look at the map, it is north of ATL also.

For those of you that travel GA often especially around the ATL....GA Navigator provides accurate road information whether it is accidents, stalls, construction, or weather related. It also gives trip times on the major highways in and right around ATL as well as estimated clearing times. Most are cleared right on the mark or before. If it isn't posted there then it hasn't been reported yet.

Do a search on GA Navigator.

I used to live in Smyrna, just outside the loop. The best way to see Atlanta is in your mirrors. The best time to drive in the Atlanta area is the 3rd Tuesday of the week. I have had better luck getting out of NYC on I-80 west at 5pm on a Friday than getting out of Atlanta at 1pm on a Sunday. If there's no other choice but to skirt the 285 loop, I try to time it so it's between 1am and 3am.

Gary,In can be even worse for lake effect ice.

Anything N of DC all the way to Connecticut can get tough in the PMs. NYC after 3pm locks up and accidents can shut it down (auto fire on a bridge etc)
Must not spent much time going threw Atlanta then....

Anyways Wise is right but that pretty much goes with any large city around 2 am.
