As a former Fire-Fighter, I have driven some pretty big trucks. Not as big as Semi's but nevertheless,I think that I have a much better understanding of what truckers go through than most automobile drivers.

Even driving a Fire truck, people don't seem to understand that when our lights are flashing and our sirens are whailing, that we are on our way to an emergency. That emergency could be a life & death situation.

When automobile drivers get in our way or refuse to pull over, they could be responsible for the loss of someones life. Yet some of them will insist that we are a nuisance to them.

I have driven straight truck, but never an 18 wheeler and I know how difficult it must be for tractor trailer drivers to back those rigs into narrow alleys while impatiemt motorists get anoyed at them for no reason.

I will always respect the truckers and I will always yield to them to give them a break. Time is money to them, so if you are a frustrated motorist, then just stay out of their way.

Yeah! What is it with SOME four wheelers and exit ramps? I was traveling down I-70 through Missouri and I was going to make a stop at exit 148 to use the restroom. About 1/2 mile before the ramp this car infront of me slams on the brakes and comes to a complete stop in the interstate! Luckily for me I was far enough away that I was able to stop without a problem and I had to come to a complete stop myself! So the car takes off slowly and heads up the ramp...about 1/2 way up the ramp the car slams on the brakes again and stops. This time I was within inches of their bumper! I layed on the airhorn that time to get their attention and hopefully make them realize what they were doing. I'm sure they thought I was some rude trucker being impatient, but I could have easily ran right over top of those people! I guess they were lost or something. They obviously couldn't see my HUGE rig behind them or didn't care enough to pay any attention. It was also night time, so I know they saw my headlights in the rearview mirror. This car went to the same gas station I did and I noticed that there was a small child jumping all over the back seat, not wearing a seatbelt. This made me furious! Now come on 4 wheelers...it's one thing to put your life at risk by driving so carelessly, but DON'T under any cirucmstaces put a young child at risk! It's not their fault that you don't have any common sense.
We need more driver training in this country. I think everyone should have to take some sort of safetly course in sharing the road with bigger vechiles. Better yet, would be really cool if everyone could go out on the road just for you day and see what we have to deal with. Not all truck drivers are saints I know, but we are the professionals.

My husband use to be a voluntee fireman. He told me one time when he was on the back of the truck responding to a fire there was a car that was right up on their bumper. One of the other guys took a wrench and "accidentally" dropped it onto the hood of the car. The car backed off immediately. (I do not support this type of behavior....but you have to admit it was effective)

I agree. Apparently there are many out there that do not know the purpose of the on and off ramp. I equally love it when you are behind someone trying to get on the interstate and wait till they get into the lane before excellerate to the speed limit. I just love it when they pull in front of a truck that is going 65 while they are at 45 miles an hour. I do not want to be a witness to that accident waiting to happen. (actually i would be a witness for the trucker because sure as I am here tryping this some lawyer would get a hold of this for the 4 wheeler and try to turn around and blame the trucker.)

Aha!..... So, that must be why fire-fighters are not allowed to ride on the back anymore.

I never said 100%. Also, I turned in LEGAL looking logs for 9 yrs. But I bet I could find a problem with just about anyone's log books. It's so simple, I can't believe it hasn't been exploited by the DOT yet.

I guess there must be 2 out of 3.5 million, because I never falsify my log book either. No need to.
