Wow ... great question.

I have done the hat thing, and the magnets, and the postcards, but My favortie is the odd things.

Rocks from each state bagged up so later I know where they came from.
Sea shells from the oceans i went to.

We got a tumbleweed from out west and carried it all the way to Ky, sadly one night it blowed away LOL. No really don't have a clue where it went. But we kept it for a while and we carried it in the tire carrier under the trailer..

The thing is to try to find out what that state is most known for and try to get something that will remind you of the state years later. I have a bottle that came from Mexico. I have all kinds of pictures and video. I got ear rings from new Mexico, and I got to ride a horse in Texas biggie for me... LOL!!

You can dig up little flowers here and there but just beware smoe states do frown on this. I had a cactus that we got from texas it lasted about 7 years.

It all depends on what you want... to remember...

Rocks are free LOL!!

Memories. That's good enough for me. I've never been a pack rat.

Very cool, thank you for all the responses. Sorry to hear about the tumbleweed, that would have been pretty cool, without a doubt.

Driving moccasins from the place that "the Thing" is located out in Arizona on I10,benson or close i think as it has been years since i have been that far west and a cactus plant that i bought from around the Gila Bend,Arizona area.It still lives and i got it well over a decade ago.
i also kept the ticket that i received in El Centro,California for 65 in a 55 that cost me close to $500 in court costs and actual ticket cost. That too was in excess of a decade ago.
I imagine that it has only gotten worse, ticket cost wise, since my last trek westward. That helped end my desires to 'head west young man".

that reminds me.i have several t-shirts and the like from flooring companies in california. I just went and pulled a golf type shirt out of a drawer. It has the logo of Valley Floor Supplies,Van Nuys,Ca. They were a regular stop for me during my carpet hauling days. The shirt has to be from around 1991 or so.Best thing about it is it cost me absolutely nothing. Can't beat that type of collectible.
Thanks for purging that from my going out on me memory.
