Re: Where do you buy your shoes? - One More Student Question

I swear by Doc Martens. I love the way they look, they last a LONG time, and they make them steel toe, fashion, hiking, shoes, and sandals. As for driving, I wear Airwalks all the time. I was recently in Ohio, and I got two pair of Airwalks for $14.99 each # MC Sports. What a steal! Airwalks are really comfy but they don't last but 6 months or so (but you can't go wrong at 14.99 a pair). Of course, Docs used to be made in England, now China (YUK). And I don't know where they make Airwalks, but I'm sure it isn't America. Are redwings American made? I don't know anyone who makes American shoes, someone please enlighten me.

Re: Where do you buy your shoes? - One More Student Question

Oddly enough, due to a knee injury (gas pedal knee), I found that my knee bothered me least or not at all for at least 7-8 hours by driving with a 1" platform mule with a 4-1/2" heel that I bought at PayLess Shoes. Was awkward, if not suspicious, when I had to get out of my truck at weigh stations, changing into something a little more masculine first.

I eventually found a pair of [women's] high heeled boots that didn't look too bad with long pants in my size so that I didn't have to worry about changing out from.

After 7-8 hours, I have to straighten out my right leg, e.g. lock my knee, and drive with my left foot for awhile. Which was why I found Volvo's to be most unsatisfactory, as there wasn't enough room for me to do this comfortably, even with the seat back as far as it would go. Volvo's suck, IMHO, for this reason!

Re: Where do you buy your shoes? - One More Student Question

I have to buy men's steel toe boots as I can never find them for women at the Kmart. I usually get the Catapillar boots. For my winter driving I have a real nice pair of fleece lined ugs. I also got a real nice pair of hiking boots from the Sierra Nevada out store the brand name is "vasque" real comfortable boots.

I was extrememly unimpressed with the one pair of "super" shoes that I bought. The sole wore uneavenly and the sidewall stitching blew out in 5 weeks. The quality and comfort went downhill when they started making them in China. I used to like the Dexter work boots since they were made locally.

Good to know, I don't have much life left in the no-name Reny's specials I am using now. (For the non-Mainers: Reny's is a discount department store chain here in Maine.)
