Doubtful that you'll find someone willing to deadhead that far. Even with fuel cost covered.

Even I would be leary of placing all my personal belongings in a trailer, with a handshake and a smile. It may be the last time you ever see them.

Also, once that driver gets back he will want to grab a load. You could find your belongings sitting out on the curb when you got there.

I am in the process of packing to move from AZ to SC and am on a limited income and I got to thinking that I remember that trucks sometimes wind up "dead heading" back home or wherever. Anyway, I got to thinking that I could pay fuel for a trucker that does not have a load, if they would move my furniture. My son is an ex trucker so I decided to ask him if he knew how I could get in touch with a trucker like that. He said he had no idea, but said that if he was looking for such a situation he would go to a truckers board. That reminded me that I was a member here although I haven't visited much.

So, anyone have any ideas how I would go about finding such a trucker? Or, an I searching for a situation that is not feasable? My dad always said, "It never hurts to ask". Any input would be appreciated.
Fueling a 18 wheeler cost more than hiring a mover.Your best bet is to call mayflower or stevens. Most of the trucks that haul for mayflower are o/o.I drove for a o/o that was supcontracted with mayflower and they are pretty good moving company.I would just rent a uhaul and move my self if I was in your shoes.Just my 2 cents.

You would spend a lot of time trying to find someone deadheading from Az to Carolina AND willing to load your furniture and transport it. I remember when I hauled furniture years ago I was amazed at how many people spent decent money to move their junky furniture cross country. For the price of the move, they could have thrown out their old raggedy junk and bought new s tuff on the on the other end.
