Driving between Seattle and Portland I have seen several flat-bed, heavy-haul, trucks with just one large boulder on it. Trucks have been going south. The rocks are the size of a VW Bug, rough (not sawed or shaped) and have florecent spray paint notations on them. Anyone know what these rocks are for? Where they are going or coming from? Must be mighty special stone to justify the expense of shipping. I'm not a driver just like looking at the unusual loads you guys haul. Usually I can guess what the load is but the boulders have me stumped. Thanks

Could be boulders that will be placed somewhere or will be broken up into smaller boulders. The buyer possibly can break them up cheaper than the seller. The markings are probably for inventory purposes, or maybe weight notations. Could even be placement markings. The London bridge was dismantled in London and each stone was marked so it was assembled back to it's original structure in Az.

Most likely going to a construction site for placement in landscaping or in a wetlands area for the wild life to live around or could just be going to a yard for reasale, large rocks around my area are in high demand and are sold for a good price, people go crazy over a large natural stone in there yard.

Thanks guys. Maybe it is as simple as "Oregon wife wants hugh BC rock in her garden". Guess if trucks only hauled things that made sense, half the fleet would be idled. And the London Bridge would still be in London.
I was hoping for something more exotic.
    Regards

Sometimes these are rocks FROM a road construction site. DOT doesnt want the fill, so they are used some where there is significant erosion. Or sent to a quarry for keeping.

I've seen those boulders on I-5 as well. They are not being transfered by some rinky-dink flatbedder with delusions of grandure. Some of these are single slabs, tilted on an angle, on 10 axle rigs. I thought it was for a really big piece of artwork somewhere.

MJ71, might have to get on the CB and ask the driver. Rocks could of been removed from a construction site or landscapping. Rocks are a huge business, remember that minor league baseball player that had land he just bought and found rocks good for lanscaping that could be worth a billion dollars.
