There's an enormous one on I-35 as you cross in from Iowa. Perhaps you haven't seen that one.

I70 in Warrensburg, there is one about 10 miles east of the Pilot in Higginsville, there are also two O/O built rest stops west of Higginsville.

I44 near Sullivan, Tourist Info/Rest Area at Conway, rest areas just east of Mt. Vernon.

I much prefer the rest areas because they are easier to get into and quieter. I've never been approached by anyone.

No, I have not driven that route....I wondered where they were putting their rest stops....looks like off the interstate is the best place for them.:biggrin_25511:

Yeah, Missouri has rest stops on I-35 and I-29. Overall, they are not near as nice, as say, Iowa....but they do serve the purpose. And I-70...

I have not traveled on the interstates much, but rather on the US highways, and they typically would not have rest stops in any state....so my comment was a little off target!!!:biggrin_2552:

    thx.

Yeah, it does blow that most of the US/State highways rarely have a rest area. At least the ones I have run on, anyhow.

If I'm not mistaking Fla. started putting officers in rest areas after those German tourist were murdered some years back, and not the only ones, tourism dropped sharply after that. The southbound rest area on I-81 in Tennessee at the 38 mm or there bouts is well lit and has on duty personnel, has had at least four people abducted and murdered, nice quite rest area in a beautiful rural area. One was a family of four coming back from a religous meeting when abducted and taken down the road to a remote area and shot to death except one child who was shot in the head and left for dead. The other incident was a guy from Texas who delivered horse trailers, he was met at gunpoint and taken to a lake on US25 and shot to death for his pick-up truck. When your anywhere you need to be very careful and meaner or smarter than everyone you come in contact with.

I-70 Glen Canyon between Grand junction and Denver CO. The most beautiful rest stops around. All but I think one you can get a truck into. There is quite a few of them on that little stretch.

Love rest stops. They are the only way you can get out of your truck and take a nice walk enjoy the smell and feeling of clean fresh air. Fairly quite. There really quite a nice break from the smelly loud asphalt jungle truckers are forced to sleep most of the time. I see cops in them all the time. I have never had even a glimmer of a bad situation at any of them. But some truckers are so used to being in a heard, they get out of the truck stops where they are almost alone its quite and kind of dark there fear of the dark so to speak kicks in and they become scared, longing for the comfort and false sence of security in the truck stops they are used to offers them.

I tend to drive in daylight and sleep at night. Texas has a NICE Rest Area on i-35 about Sonora. There is a pretty nice one but I know not if it's safe at ANY time just outside of Laredo a bit north of the truck stops.

The ones on toll roads are usefull because they have hot food available.

I use Truck Stops to sleep in because that's how I get online. A smart phone MIGHT change things....
