We both, my husband and I came off the road a year ago, I did not drive but did all the paper work, cleaned cooked, called the shippers and receivers ect. We came off the road a year ago. Since we came off the road we have become distant. We were no longer with each other 24/7. He got a "regular job" and I started to see our bond diminishing. We want to go back OTR to rebuild our marriage, re-bond, become best friends again! Has anybody gone through this as well? Coming off the road and no longer spending every moment together? I really miss the special thing we had!

I made the decision to go with my husband to become closer to him and work on our marriage. We will be leaving next week and giving up our home which we currently rent. We came off the road a year ago, I did not drive but did all the paper work, cleaned, cooked delicious meals and made the truck our home. We came of the road a year ago and he got a "regular job" but us not being together 24/7 has hurt our relationship. I will do anything for my husband becuase that is the deep love I have for him. It's so hard to leave my house, give up my dogs and close my small business but he is more important. It has been so hard on our marriage since we came off the road and we need this time to regroup. Sometimes I feel we continuously make mistakes and it is heartbreaking. I am mourning the loss of my home and especially my dogs and have been so depressed but this is my ultimate total unselfish gift to my husband and testimony of the love I have for me by me going OTR with him. I know God will bless me for this decision and I have to put my faith in that. I guess the reason I am so sad is because of all the poor decisions we made in the past, going from one job to another and always wondering what we will be doing, even with the dogs by rescuing them and now giving them up. I feel I have done my dogs wrong. I also feel like a louser because of such poor decisions we have made in the past and just want it all to stop. It feels good to vent here and get it out. But this decision to go OTR with him is my ultimate gift of unselfish love for my husband.

I was very impressed by your post - it sounds like you are sacrificing quite a bit for your marriage & I hope your husband realizes how hard this has been for you and all that you've compromised. I would be very interested in hearing how this works out for you once you return to the road together. I have a hard time relating to your situation - I'm the type of woman who really can't handle any man for 24/7 - "absence makes the heart grow fonder" definitely describes my preference. I work full-time and travel for work myself, and when my man was working 5-6 days away and home for a solid 1 or 2 days per week - that was perfect. Time was precious, leaving little time for arguing over stupid stuff. We both had our own stuff to do those 5 or 6 days and it made us appreciate those 1-2 days together even more. When he started being home every night...well, that's when things really fell apart for me. I now have a new friend (boyfriend??) and I've ridden with him, but only a few times and only one night at a time in the sleeper. I think I'd like to do a solid week or two on the road with him and he keeps saying he wants me out on the road with him (I can take some vacation time) - I love road trips, love riding in the truck and love his company, but that much time together in such a small space...I'm worried I'd get on his last nerve and he'd end up "forgetting" me at truckstop 3000 miles from home!! I'd be interested in knowing what you do, or if you do anything alone when you're on the road - how you get a little personal time just to be able to hear yourself think (my friend is a talker and never shuts up!) so, if you could update your post once you're on the road again, I'd really like to hear about it - any advice for getting along smoothly when you're together so much etc. Good luck and try to focus on the positive "intangibles" you'll be gaining from your experience rather than the material "things" you're leaving behind. Again, good luck.

Thanks so much for your post! WE have been on the road now for a month and it is gpoing FANTASTIC!!!!!!! We never get on each others nerves, we laugh and joke around all day long! We are having a blast and I would rather live in our truck than have a home again! My days are really busy in the truck and time FLIES!!! I now you were concerned on how you could have time alone just to think in the truck alone and if you need that it is very easy. Just go in the back and relax by yourself, watch a dvd, read a book, play on the computer. You could if you want have alot of time to yourself if that's what you need. I don't need that because my husband is mybest friend! Here's a little about my daily schedule::

Wake up, coffee and get ready, then he starts driving and I start my day doing everything while he drives. This is my typical day..........
Make breakfast in the truck, we have a microwave, electric coffee maker, electric skillet and toaster oven and a refrigerator
Then I work out in the truck, I habe dumbbelss, kettle bells and resistant bands, I work out morning for an hour
Then I make a post workout protein shake
Then come back up to visit
Then I start luch, I make something hot in the skillet, I have cooked scampi, tuna melts, top sirloin, chicken parmesean, eggs and bacon, blueberry pancakes, stir fry, chicken fingers.... basically anything I cook at home I cook in the truck and I do this all while he is driving
Then I will read out of the bible for him and also some bible books
Then I might watch a dvd, write out recipes or workouts or play on the computer
Then I cook dinner or make homemade cookies in the toastere oven
Then it is usually time to stop for the n ight so we pop some pop corn cuddle up in the sleeper and watch movies.
We stop at walmart twice a week for groceries and do laundry once a week at the truck stop. When we are at the shippers and receivers we play board games and cards! It is alot of fun and it feels great to be no mans. We love it because our truck is our home. Life is great and you should try it. It really feels so free!!!!!! and so relaxing!!! I think you would love it and I know your boyfriend would really appreciate it. Email me anytime and feel free to ask any questions

After a couple years or less the wife gets "burnt out" and want's off the truck like my wife did. But, while she's on there have a good time but start saving for a new home so the wifey has a place to go while you are driving all over the country solo.

Thanks for sharing your daily routine - that gives me more to think about. But do you have enough room for all your clothes in there and personal items (the hair dryer, the curling iron, towels etc? It seemed pretty cramped. He was filing his paperwork in the microwave it was so tight in there! And, thanks for the offer to e-mail and I may in the future. But, for now, I don't have to prepare for hitting the road - that BF is history. :smt021

I have been teamed with my boyfriend for 3 years. We work really good as a team, and when running for the right company it pays off. However if teamed...spending quality time with one another tends to be an issue. I drive nights, boyfriend drives days. He falls asleep if he is sitting in the passenger seat, so I am usually the one sleeps less just so we can at least talk for awhile. I wouldn't change it for the world. And if you can manage to stay together for 24/7 you can handle anything. My boyfriend and I haven't been apart since we teamed, until now, and I am going nuts.
If you choose not to drive, helping with paper work, finding good routes, helping stay awake and alert with conversation....all of those help drivers immensely.

You might want to look into expediting and driving a straight truck . Start out with a fleet owner . Within a few years you could buy more trucks and become fleet owners yourself . Straight truck drivers have much better parking options . The trucks are smaller than some RV's so some campgrounds welcome them and they can drive through National parks . You could also bring your dogs if you wanted to .

You should really start your own thread and blog . Your experience is very inspiring .
You are right . God will bless you for your devotion and unselfishness
