Wow! Sounds like you've got room for the clothes, the shoes the person stuff - that's much more encouraging to me. I need to contact you about your storage and how you organize the space. Maybe your sleeper is bigger than the one my BF had... I think my REAL beef is that I'm used to traveling for work 4-5K miles a month using my own car, and pretty much being solo most of the day. So riding shotgun and not being behind the wheel myself seems a little "weird". I'm a terrible driver, but anyone else's driving seems to REALLY irritate me - go figure. But, I do love the ride...Ok.... you talked me into it --- if I can get things fired up with this guy again, I'll definitely give it a try. I mean, what's the worst thing that could happen, right?

I see this is an older thread. I tried to pm eastvalleytrucking but as I only have 1 post count it says I can not post until post count is 7. I actually created this account for my dear hubby but so far he asks me questions to look up but hasn't used the site himself. He has been driving for probably about 15yrs but it is all local and regional. We have talked about him going over the road now that we are empty nesters and me riding along with him. Lots of things to consider and I am looking for someone to help me sort it all out. I am really hoping someone is still watching this thread. Will keep looking in the mean time. Thanks His wife.

Should be pretty easy to find a good company with his experience. Lots of spouses ride along, it is something I wish my wife could do.

Holland Enterprises has a rider program that starts on day one. Trucks have APU's.Check the website.

It would help to post your location on your profile & also put your questions on "Experienced Truckers Advice" thread.

Get with a company that has APU's also. Here's a few more:

    Maverick
    Dynamic Transit (paper logs)
    Melton Truck Lines
    Morehouse Truck Line
    Tribe Transport

I did one ride along a couple months back to see how my back would deal with it (just had back surgery a year ago). I am now back in the seat and driving again. We run teams, and it works for us. The dog comes with, since she won't be separated from me (mama's girl . . . bloodhound-doberman mix), the make-up stays home, and I live in jeans and t-shirts or button down shirts since anything nice will just get trashed.

There are plenty of women that ride along with their spouses and always have been. It's amusing to see some reactions when some people realize that I'm not JUST a trucker's wife, but a trucker myself. Daughter of a trucker too, so it's genetic! Since we just started teaming, it is a learning curve for our dispatcher, since she isn't use to dealing with a team. We are getting the hang of our routine too. It is coming along, and I am glad to be back out on the road. The kids are all adults now, and the youngest takes care of our cats and our apartment, since he still lives close by.

My husband and I have decided to put all of our belongings in storage and go on the road together as well. I too will not be driving but am doing a lot of research as to how to keep myself some what productive and a help to him with his work. As an older couple being married just shy of a year now, we feel after surviving difficult pasts and begining over again in our 50's this will be a way (if we're smart about it) to afford a home without having a mortgage well into our 80's. I'm being realistic about the challenges we will face but sharing this adventure together will give us great memories and a true sense of a solid relationship as a team!

Thank you so much for sharing your story. My husband is an OTR driver and we recently decided that I would join him. It was a struggle for me at first to make such a commitment! After doing a little soul searching I realized I was reluctant because I am a career minded woman used to working, having my own money, and contributing to our bills. The thought of not being independent scared me. My husband and I, a middle aged couple, enjoy each other's company immensely and I am certain this will be a wonderful experience. He will be home the first week of July and. I will be going out with him following his 4day rest.
I decided to become an online Independent Avon Representative to give myself something to do and look forward to sharing our over the road journey with others!

Thank you again for sharing your story!
